He may not be a DS sleeper, he may just be the latest target of the DS to take down Trump. But the flattery would be tempting to take seriously. He now has a choice to make.

If DeSantis is smart, he will quickly signal his loyalty to his state and to President Trump. If not, it's a long road downhill I fear.

Remember Sarah Palin. Some Alaskans haven't forgiven her yet for leaving the governorship to run for national office.

And you sir, win the prize for common sense tonight. Thank you - it IS total bullshit.

No it will not, unless voters choose the other candidate as their second choice. Many Alaskans, disgusted with the ranked choice voting system, either chose the same person all the way across, or made their choice and left the rest of the ovals blank. In both of those cases, no added votes would go to the other candidate.

What you don't see in this graphic is the party affiliation of the candidates. This is the "beauty" of ranked choice voting if you are destined to lose in a regular head-to-head, legitimate vote: In the House vote, Mary Peltola is D, Sarah Palin and Nick Begich are both R. Ranked choice voting splits the two Republicans and lets the underdog win. Add up Palin's and Begich's votes and the total is larger than Peltola's.

In the Senate race, Tshibaka and Murkowski are both R's (even though the Republicans have censured Lisa and don't consider her one of their own). The Democratic candidate, Chesbro, is so far behind that she isn't significant. BUT none of these numbers are final. Since neither Tshibaka or Murkowski got 50% +1 of the vote, people's second candidate choice will be added to these numbers. One additional note: One thing Republicans suck at is defining a strategy and sticking to it - something the Democrats do very well. Notice that the D's have only ONE candidate on the ballot. The Republicans have anywhere from two to three, splitting the R vote. Sorting out these folks is something best done in PRIMARIES, folks. But the R's are too stupid and too independent to come together and agree that only the highest vote getter in the primary goes to the general election.

So this is a long way from being over. And yes, ranked choice voting should be outlawed. Our state legislators are working on that very thing as we speak. Oh, and none of this takes the inevitable cheating into account... and we know it was there.

Reminder: In our ridiculous ranked choice voting system, candidates have to have 50% +1 to win. Since no one is above 50%, they will add the votes from the next round to each candidate after dropping the one with the fewest votes.

Totally rigged system to ensure that the person with the most votes DOESN'T win.

Thanks folks - you've educated me. I didn't realize there were legal ramifications to conceding.

We're too focused on that line. We're too focused on being "nice" and "fair". Have you not yet figured out this is war? We better have something solid in our pockets ready to release or this election will go down just like the last ones.

Of course they did. Trump is fighting the liberals/dems on one side, and the never-Trumper republicans on the other side. I sometimes wonder if it wouldn't have been easier to start a third party rather than try to reform the Republicans. I'm not sure they're reformable.

My husband said this morning, "I am more pissed off voting this time than I've ever been before." I expect he feels that way because of our ridiculous ranked choice voting (which ensures that the person with the majority of votes loses) and the crazy liberal policies we're being subjected to. The answer to address this? VOTE.

Long line in my tiny village. Nearly everyone is conservative, and it appears they all came out to vote today! Good job, neighbors!

My (Dominion) machine rejected my ballot saying "Duplicate Markings", which was true. Because of my (stupid) ranked choice voting state, I marked the same candidate all the way across 4 or 5 bubbles to ensure that no one filled in anyone else after the fact. The poll worker said to me, "You have marked a candidate more than once. Is that how you want to vote?" I told her "yes!" and pushed "CAST" to cast the ballot. The machine accepted it. No telling if they adjudicate or reject it somewhere else down the line, but at least I have a reasonable idea that I won't be voting for someone I didn't actually vote for.

My philosophy is to vote them all down unless I have specific information that tells me they are a white hat. I think judges should be a temporary service, just like politicians should be. Keep the scum stirred up, you know?

I can't figure out how to post a photo, but page 4 of my State of Alaska Official Election Pamphlet shows different examples of ranked choice voting. It explains ranking a candidate more than once in the bottom example. It confirms that when a candidate is eliminated in a round, they are eliminated from all future rounds as well. Rather than leaving 2nd through 5th ovals open (so someone else could fill them in), fill in all the ovals for your first choice. If your candidate is eliminated, at least you are not voting for someone you don't want.
