Here’s another idea- the house arrest this year definitely proved people can work from home. Let’s send all these Swamp ? ? back to the districts they represent and they can zoom like the rest of the unwashed.
True, but I also don't want the beauty of the west to be dirtied by anybody, even a new Capitol that might be "perfect." Cities never remain peaceful, they eventually become overrun by filth.
Not if you nationalize the entire capital, and prohibit all private development for miles around. Check out how the Swiss run their capitol, they use state-owned hotels for diplomatic meeting places https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotel_Bellevue_Palace
It’s the capitol. It’s supposed to be different than any other city. The founders planned it that way. They didn’t want DC to turn into a huge metropolis.
It’s not as simple as ‘muh government’. Would we be better off if everything was under corporate control? The purpose of having a highly regulated, limited capitol space is to shed as much light as possible on the place where commercial and public interests interact, and to keep public interests public. The capitol should be a meeting place for representatives, not a region where an elite class can grow roots.
So is the government in control, or the corporations? You start out making it sound like either/or, then you sort of flirt with both/and, and I'm not sure what you think will be different.
The founders could have placed the capitol in New York City, the largest metropolis in the new nation. Instead they set aside a small parcel of land for a new city. Why do you think they made that choice?
On one side the of mountain is an air force base, with terminals available for government officials. A tram ferries passengers through an underground tunnel that goes to the other side of the mountain, where the capitol sits nested in a valley. The capitol is run like a ski resort, with a tightly controlled economy.
Change may not be a bad thing. Time for a complete flush. Start fresh under the New Republic. Do we really need that many people that dont get along and dont work for the betterment of us all? I think we could do better with a lot less of them. Oh ya how about TERM LIMITS too.

Yes and no. Some stuff does need to be done face to face so it can be secure.
And let DC sink back into the mire from which it arose.
Sorry Montana is full!? Unless you plan on removing all the out of staters that invaded during COVID, then by all mean please come on over!!
it's a MT joke! ? I have found my fellow states men now though!?
But, but that would bankrupt the richest counties in America, the ones surrounding DC.
Castle Rock
I am hoping that is the government style we end up with a Home Municipality!!

Us: "Hey, let's reduce the government's power and influence." Also us: "We should have the government operate more stuff!"
PICK ONE.

Everything we put under government control goes the same way. Expecting a different result is...well, you know.

Beautiful. Great idea
So, Colorado?
Yes...want to run this country? Fine. No electricity. No fine dining. Outhouses for all. Everyone takes a train or horse.

Let them zoom.
I am picturing a frontier city like in Red Dead Redemption
But where will the lobbyists and treasonous think tanks live?
Let’s split it up and have NO centralized government
I was thinking Missouri. There will have to be a interim location(maybe Dallas) until they can build an airport and some infrastructure
I’d volunteer Nebraska as a good location :)
The limited agencies allowed by our Constitution need to be in separate states.
