As someone who doesn't know shit about stocks, I have 2 questions:
I’ll answer in reverse order.
2.) It has happened before, 12 years ago with Volkswagen.

Simplest explanation (it’s a bit more complicated than this but close enough): Hedge funds were attempting to short Gamestop more shares than are actually available. So some people on r/wallstreetbets noticed that short interest was high and decided to jump in and buy a bunch of the stock to drive the price up and screw the short sellers.
And it worked, for some amount of money. But because it worked, other people started to jump in, mostly people that don’t even know about WSB just to screw these massive hedge funds. GME got caught in a gamma squeeze last week which drove the prices up high enough so that the short sellers got caught in an infinite short squeeze.
To cover their shorts, the hedge funds have to buy shares at ever increasing amounts, and they are stuck paying higher interest rates continually. They’ve already lost some 10b on a stock which wasn’t even worth a billion a few weeks ago.
And why the DS is scared:
They don’t care about losing the money on gamestop. Just chuck a couple ten billion at it and it’s over.
What they care about is people catching on to over shorted companies and commodities. Right now people have started looking at AMC and BBBY, which are overshorted. A similar thing can happen there.
But the really big one is precious metals - gold and especially silver. Silver has been shorted since the 70s. If that can be overcome, then the banks still shorting will topple.
and now that these autists literally have millions from the GME thing, they can potentially overcome silver now

So it sounds like the main component in the masses doing this is just RAGE that has no other outlet and there is still risk involved for them, as the hedge funds could just keep throwing money at it if they think these people will eventually let off the gas. Like a big game of chicken?
I'm trying to view this the through the lens of Q happenings, since many people seem to want to tie it to the great awakening. But it sounds, to me, that there was no need for Q team to instigate something like this and it comes down to someone seeing an opening and people being so fed up with the filthy rich (and possibly, having stimulus money to throw at this) that they went in on this.
Yep. More or less. It’s just mass public spite directed at the hedge funds, and of course some people getting filthy rich. But the folks that got filthy rich were from last week and earlier, the people now getting in are part of the mania.

Yes, I see your point of view. As a newer Q follower I have wondered about some attempts to link current events to cryptic Q posts. Some are a stretch but I assumed it was my own lack of knowledge for thinking so. But, I find the GameStop timing to be interesting as all of this plays out on the world stage. While not necessarily connected to Q, I believe lots of events are connected to a bigger picture yet to be revealed.
