I have a friend who read this article and defends it. I'm honestly shocked. He says things like "people are gullible and can't be trusted to think for themselves." He's a perfectly intelligent person, he designs card and board games for a living.
Even intelligent and well educated people can be cluelessly stupid when it comes to common sense but it really goes way deeper than that. Society seems to believe that those with a college degree or have a business involving lots of thought, problem solving, or anything really that society deems them as intelligent.
A really high IQ does not always equate to real intelligence either. Throughout history, many with the highest IQ would have some form of mental disorder. Often this would be along the lines of not being able to socialize with others well, not being able to effectively communicate.
Those that are taught things are not truly intelligent in the same sense as those who learn things, yes there is a difference. When you are taught something, you form a perception that your source is 100% reliable and accurate such as a teacher or even reading things online.
When you learn something independently, you take in the information differently. You will question things more and look for ways to add proof to or add proof against. Far too many people rely on the news media or now days rely on independent content creators but everyone has an opinion and an agenda.
When you find sources you feel you can trust and double checking their information has the same results then you can begin to take some of what they say as accurate but you should always question everything unless you know it to be fact already.
It’s like there’s two types. The kind that is really into a subject and knows that there is so much that they don’t know. And the kind that thinks they know everything.

I posit the ones that desire power or exclusivity more so than just intellectuals.

Modern day intellectuals anyway.
They're taught to not question sources or think critically, only to consume what's given to them.
You should have looked at him and said, "The elites chose Biden you dumb fuck. He's literally retarded, but trust the elites?! Okay! LOL"
