What is the Origin of the St. Michael Prayer?
FATHER RAY RYLAND
On Oct. 1, 1884, Pope Leo XIII had a deeply disturbing mystical experience at Mass. He had just finished celebrating in his private chapel when he suddenly stood transfixed in front of the altar. For perhaps 10 minutes he stood there as if in a trance, his face drained of color. Then he went to his office and composed a prayer to St. Michael. He told his staff the prayer should be offered throughout the Church.
He explained that he had heard two voices in the vicinity of the tabernacle. He believed they were the voices of Our Lord and of Satan. Pope Leo heard Satan boast that he could destroy the Church in 75 or 100 years, if given the opportunity. Then he heard Our Lord give Satan permission to try. (This sounds somewhat similar to what we read in Job 1.)
The prayer which Pope Leo XIII composed was 10 times the length of the version we use today. Use of the prayer was discontinued in 1964. Thirty years later, in his Regina Coeli address, Pope John Paul II revived use of the prayer. He said, “Although the prayer is no longer recited at the end of Mass, I ask every one not to forget it and to recite it to obtain help in the battle against the forces of darkness and against the spirit of the world.” The pope clearly intended that we should offer this prayer in our homes as well. The prayer, by the way, is as follows:
St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

“When I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me, but he said to me, ‘You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God’ ”
Colossians 2:18
“Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,”
I don’t believe praying, i.e. asking for help and intercession from Angels and Saints in heaven is considered worship to most Catholic or Orthodox Christians. Worship is the offering of sacrifice to a deity, i.e. like the priests offered to God in the Old Testament times, or today in the Catholic Mass. Worship is reserved only to God. Asking for intercession to angels and saints is also consistent with Old Testament scripture.
You do not pray to created beings - you ask the CREATOR to dispatch angelic help. Intercessions to "saints" is praying to the dead, strictly forbidden by the Bible.
Yes, your religion which was created by a mentally ill person 500 years ago that removed. Who removed books from the real Bible, told you that you don't need God to be saved just interpret the Bible anyway you feel. Who after 1,500 years of scripture and tradition decided God got it wrong...Yes, you must be the protestant guru we must all believe...lol. You have no understanding buddy...look to Jesus' Church and be enlightened.
By Jesus' Church do you mean the church of Rome? The satanic, pedo, idol worshipers? No thanks. And Jesus is the only one I follow, not Luther or any other human.
The Catholic church is Jesus' church. You do follow the mentally ill Luther or one of the 20,000 variations. Your ignorance and bitterness of God's church will not serve you well.
Matt. 5:44-45 – Jesus tells us to pray for (to mediate on behalf of) those who persecute us. God instructs us to mediate. But are you saying beings that see the face of God in heaven can’t mediate for us?
I’ll check out your link. Thanks
Where does God instruct us to meditate or nominate heavenly beings to meditate on our behalf? We meditate on THE WORD - The BIBLE. We pray to Jesus and God the Father - anything else is false, unscriptural and forbidden as it leads to idolatry and false worship. I know, I was raised a Catholic and it took me a long time to see what I needed to. The choice is between worshiping in Truth and in Spirit according to God's word, or falling prey to man-made doctrine, distortions and lies. The most terrifying passage in the Bible is Matthew 7:23: Jesus said I never knew you, depart from me you workers of iniquity. Don't blindly follow tradition/inherited beliefs - question, investigate, pray to be led to truth.
James 5:16 “Confess therefore your sins one to another: and pray one for another, that you may be saved. For the continual prayer of a just man availeth much. “
We only pray to God obliviously, but there nothing wrong asking others to pray for us also, including saints and angels, this is what is meant by intercession, nothing else.
Jesus himself warned us not to offend small children, because their guardian angels have guaranteed intercessory access to the Father: “See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven” (Matt. 18:10).
REV 8:3 And another angel came and stood before the altar, having a golden censer: and there was given to him much incense, that he should offer of the prayers of all saints, upon the golden altar which is before the throne of God.
REV 8:4 And the smoke of the incense of the prayers of the saints ascended up before God from the hand of the angel.
“1 Tim. 2:5 – therefore, although Jesus Christ is the sole mediator between God and man, there are many intercessors (subordinate mediators).
John 2:3 – Jesus knew the wine was gone, but invites and responds to Mary’s intercession. God desires our lesser mediation and responds to it because He is a living and loving God.
John 2:5 – Mary intercedes on behalf of those at the wedding feast and tells them to do whatever Jesus tells them. Because Mary is our perfect model of faith, we too intercede on behalf of our brothers and sisters.
John 2:11 – in fact, it was Mary’s intercession that started Jesus’ ministry. His hour had not yet come, yet Jesus responds to Mary’s intercession. Even though He could do it all by Himself, God wants to work with His children.”
My Catholic Church says this prayer after EVERY Mass and has done so since some time in 2019 I believe.
I was gone for a year and lived in the city while my home was being rebuilt in late 2018 for a year after being flooded out by Hurricane Flo. So I don't know when they actually started saying it.
But after I returned home finally in Sept 2019 and came back to my local church I was happy to hear they were doing it especially since I had been following Q since 2017.
Dude, pray to God not to the angels. That's what it says in the Bible. God is the only one we are ti worship. We are to worship Him through Christ. See the Lord's Prayer in Matthew.
Almighty Father in heaven if it is your will please send Michael and your warrior angels to defend the children and our land. We know your angels answer to your voice only.
Strengthen us and forgive us. Prepare us for the good fight that is ahead.
At no point in the Bible are we instructed to offer up prayer to anyone besides God.
Praying to angels, saints, images, or idols is an un-Biblical tradition that appears no place in scripture. Jesus modeled prayers and it wasn't to angels or saints, it was to God.
Pray to God (The Father, The Son, or The Holy Spirit) and GOD dispatches angels.
Beautiful prayer. I remain a Catholic because that is my faith and my connection Our Lord but I hate the Vatican and the hierarchy all the way down to my Diocese Bishop. Dark days but God Wins.
Few know the Truth; Many are still blinded. Respect and Honor Archangel Michael, but never pray to him when he has no authority and dominion over the Earth except Jesus. Mocking the King of Kings and Lord of Lords by praying to an angel.
O glorious Archangel St. Michael, Prince of the heavenly host, defend us in battle, and in the struggle which is ours against the principalities and Powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, against spirits of evil in high places (Eph 6:12).
Come to the aid of men, whom God created immortal, made in his own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil (Wisdom 2:23–24, 1 Cor 6:20).
Fight this day the battle of the Lord, together with the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there a place for them any longer in Heaven. But that cruel, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan, who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with all his angels (Rev 12:7–9).
Behold, this primeval enemy and slayer of man has taken courage, Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the name of God and of his Christ, to seize upon, slay and cast into eternal perdition souls destined for the crown of eternal glory.
This wicked dragon pours out, as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men of depraved mind and corrupt heart, the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy, and the pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity.
These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the Immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on her most sacred possessions (Lam 3:15).
In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most blessed Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be scattered.
Arise then, O invincible prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and bring them the victory.
The Church venerates thee as protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious powers of this world and of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude.
Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church.
Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly conciliate the mercies of the Lord; and beating down the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations. Amen.
Satan and any of the demons have no power over us as long as we reject them, the prayer of St Michael is a prayer of Self Exorcism. I say it daily, and when I wake during the 3 AM hour, or the witching hour. The blessing before the meal is asking God for his blessing on the food we eat, as it is a way evil can transform itself. (When Jesus cast out demons they entered the swine) This is why food must be blessed before eating.
And he *said to Him, “My name is Legion; for we are many.” 10 And he began to implore Him earnestly not to send them out of the country. 11 Now there was a large herd of swine feeding nearby on the mountain. 12 The demons implored Him, saying, “Send us into the swine so that we may enter them.” 13 Jesus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them; and they were drowned in the sea.
Just like when you are going through a hard time you ask your friends to pray for us, we ask our friends including the heavenly host who desire to aid us in our time of need.
Dat jawline and form puts all Chads on Earth to shame. Stomping a pedo serpent and holding the balance of justice because fuck you. Pardon language but this painting is awesome.
Rev 19: 10 has to do with worship. Catholics don't worship Saint Michael, or any other saint. They ask them to pray for them the same way you might ask someone else to pray for you. It's called intercession, not worship.

Praying to and worshipping are 2 different things
You do not pray to created beings. When you do it becomes an act of worship.
Actually, it is recognition that heaven actually exists and weare part of God's creation.

Thank you for posting that.
Thank you.
That is beautiful.
I'm not Catholic but I do admire Michael the Archangel. I like it when angels are accurately portrayed as warriors of God.
I’ll just leave this right here.

Earlier this week, my best friend wished me angelic protections, and the following morning, I found faced up, a charm of st Michael.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't amazed.
Amen.
Heart in the right place, no offense but don't pray to angels, only to God the father.
Just like when you are going through a hard time you ask your friends to pray for us, we ask our friends including the heavenly host who desire to aid us in our time of need.
