I’ve lived Texas my whole life and have never experienced anything like this. We were well prepared and we did have plenty of notice that this was coming but it’s still been really crazy. We were without power all day yesterday but it came back on today. However, more bad weather coming tonight so we are being told to prepare for more power outages. Our houses are not built for this type of weather so freezing pipes is also a huge concern. We just have to make it to Friday and we should be fine. Believe or not, our forecast for Sunday is going to be in the 70’s.
Idk that’s what I always have done and other people say to do it to. If the pumping stations don’t lose power then you’re good to go. If they lose power then the pipes may freeze regardless, so I would just let the faucet drip.
TBH, we complain about 50 degrees in TX too. I consider myself a fair prepper, and I've got the backup food, water, gas heaters and generator to prove it right now... but this has still been extremely brutal, even for us. Haven't showered in a week and had to brave icy roads to deliver water to some elder folk who were SOL otherwise earlier today (we don't have things like snow plows down here).
On the plus side, I went snowboarding in my backyard for the first time ever yesterday. Used to have to drive to CO for that! Kek
My family and friends have been without power since Sunday. Low water pressure has caused a boil water mandate. Hard to boil water with no electricity. Only a few have gas stoves. Another storm coming in tonight. They can't get gas for generators either. Roads and businesses are closed. I'm not sure how much warning they had of the storm or if there were calls to the public to prep for outtages, but this caught everybody I know off guard.
Been out of power since THURSDAY. I bragged about all the backup fuel and heaters I have at the time, but now that too is running low. Thank God we happen to have a fireplace, trees in the yard, saws and an axe in the garage. We are in total survival mode right now.
In Kerrville, just NW of San Antonio with 3 children ages 8 months to 6 years old. My parents had to abandon their house, it got down to 9 degrees on them after power went down for good.
My Dad and I consolidated our prepper supplies and hunting gear and we have been holding down the fort pretty good for a few days, but now we are reaching a point where we are running out of our backup propane for the heaters and gasoline for the generator. I spent half the day chopping wood for the fireplace out in the snow like a fuckin' mountain man.
It's been pretty intense, I don't doubt for a second that once this is over, there will be a high death toll for people who were stranded in worse situations than I.
As I said in another comment, on the plus side I went snowboarding in my backyard the last two days. Didn't need to drive to CO and buy lift tickets this year... First time for everything I guess!
just shows that green energy is shit because it relies on electric grid... during a storm, you are cut off. the gas grid usually doesn't fail, at least where im from.
Please don not donate. We are fine. I suspect that we just have some bureaucrats empowered by some newly elected officials to deal with. It appears that some of our dependable natural gas/coal power generation was disabled, and is now frozen, in favor of our massive wind farm capacity, half of which is frozen. I feel like I've seen this movie before. Maybe it was in California, I don't know...
This is complete b.s. They start rolling blackouts on the coldest days. My wife was in the shower. Pitch black. I had to go get her.
First it was 30 min on and 15 min off. Then it progressed to 30 min off and then about a minute and a half to two minutes on. Not even enough time to heat any food up b/c power might only be on a minute or two. Had to cook burgers in the smoker. Waste of charcoal for a small meal. We got worried that the constant on and offs would mess up our fridge/freezer/electronics.
My parents live two streets away and had power the entire time. We finally got power back on for half the day and my parents called and said they finally lost power. Ours went down again shortly after they called and never came back.
My brother’s house and my sister’s house have not had power for two days and they are only about 15 min away in either direction from me. My brothers family has a big ass campfire in the backyard to keep warm. He said it was better than being in the house. LOL
Our “storm” isn’t even bad. It’s cold for Texas but would be considered “a pretty good day” in any Northern state. Sad that Texas power grid cannot handle winter. I am ready to straight up choke those responsible. I can handle cold but I am pissed my parents have to put up with this crap.

luckily i live in the blue area and I am not experiencing the outages the rest of the state is.
The planning for this is a complete failure.
The record low of Texas is -23F, which has been reached twice in two different locations.
This cold snap is nowhere even close.
MI here! Leave several of your faucets dripping to prevent the pipes from freezing.

Hang in there pede and thanks for taking care of your neighbors needs. I lived in TX for a few years and majority of ppl are very thoughtful and kind.
Very true. Unleash Paxton.
Half of my family is without power, all over the state.

I’ve got family in DFW. They’ve got small children and the power keeps shutting off—house got down to 55°. This is so scary ?
