I would guess the reason that these young people claim to be gay is social pressure or political correctness. This is the same reason that the election polls got it so wrong. Many Trump supporters will never admit over the phone that they're Trump supporters.

I suspect that in about 10 years the percentage of Gen Z who identify as any kind of gay will be up to 40%. Younger generations it will be even higher. Soon heterosexuals will become a minority and persecuted (as we already are). I give it 20 years max, but I suspect it will change very rapidly in the coming years.
