Big ass military air cranes. Can probably run 4 or 5 at it around the clock. If they can lift 30 crates off an hour they will have her unloaded in just 666 hours!
Each one of those shipping containers weighs around 30 tons. A Sikorsky, on a good day can maybe lift around 8-9 tons. No way can you airlift those containers. Needs to be done by a sea crane and loaded onto another boat to be offloaded in port.
An empty 20 is 4,000 lbs, an empty 40 about twice that. A M-26 can fly around with 44,000 lbs in tow. That means 75/80% of the load can be air lifted. Any really heavy containers will be at the bottom in any event because that's how they are loaded.
The video misses the most obvious and easiest solution - pull from LAND. The ship is in the middle of a canal with close and easy access to land on both sides. Just get hundreds of vehicles with cables tied to them and tow it away. Obviously small cars wouldn't work, but think about a few hundred bulldozers all towing in the same direction.
Hadn't seen yours but posted the same thing. I like how you think. The problem they are looking at is how to free that ship. They should be asking how to move the traffic at the same time. Its an engineers dream.
Yes my degree is in civil engineering. I would love to be there.
I think a lot of people here are failing to understand the scale of this ship, its amazing weight and how far its prow is stuck into the bank.
200k tons is about the same weight as the Sears Tower in Chicago.
1400 feet long is more than a 1/4 mile. This ship is standing 20 stories above the water line.
A forty five foot keel is 4.5 stories of ship stuck in mud/sand/silt that wont be easily removed. And as it is removed waterlogged fill falls into the hole.
Not only that but the tip of the keel is a huge bulb. I havent been able to find the dimensions of that bulb or how far past the prow it goes but 30 feet beyond the prow sounds and looks reasonable from pictures.
Until youve stood on one, next to one, you cant really appreciate how massive this boat is. Pictures simply dont do it justice. Ive never been up close and personal with one of these mega container ships but I have to a Great Lakes iron ore freighter. An iron ore freighter is a dinghy in comparison and let me tell you an iron ore freighter is huge.
The risk to damaging underwater cables is too great. They run through the canal. With the ship being dug in like it is with the weight it has runs a huge risk they can snap the lines running through the bottom of the canal.
Thanks, that was incredibly well done and hRd to argue with. It's almost like they built this portion to be the critical node. They can probably dig. New canal around it faster. And probably ought to
How about a big fulcrum installed from the floor of the canal (or floating, but seems harder to me), and then tipping it enough to begun some rotation? By tipping, I mean shifting the weight, or adding/subtracting at the extreme ends.
Here's one answer: A lot of tanks and cables pulling from the land. I'm sure anyone who wants the canal open can bring in some tanks and bulldozers, anything huge that has tracks.
Alternate answer: Tactical nuke and write off the ship and cargo.
Taking the containers off would be the best solution. AND while taking these containers off HOW ABOUT OPENING THEM AND SEE WHAT IS INSIDE - human trafficking? You can bet they will find trafficked humans in lots of these containers.

Same way we underway replenishment (UNREP) ship's at sea. definitely a military operation.
It may be possible for some mi-26 transport helicopters to lift some of the containers.

Exactly. Have large machines on shore on both sides of the canal, doing the grunt of the pulling.
Then perhaps some boats in the canal to manipulate where the force and angle is being exerted on the Ever Given.
With enough mechanical advantage, the biggest block and tackles you can find, I feel this could would be far from impossible.
Perhaps I’m just a layman, or perhaps there is very good reason to just unload the containers first ?
LOL I just posted this! It’s amazing isn’t it
I mentioned this in another post:
It would probably be faster to build a short canal around the Ever Given than it will be to dig it out.
That seems the most direct solution to me as well.

Great minds think alike, lol.
The big problem is the turning circle. These vessels don't turn on a dime, otherwise we wouldn't even have this blockage.
I was hyped seeing how many views it had already. ? Good lookin' out.
I'm guessing they just have to unload all those containers ;D
*then "someone" hears human noises from many of them :DDDD
Great video.
Excellent info! Thanks for posting.

Making an illustration, should i post?
Excellent. He seems to know what he is talking about. No Suez Canal for a while.

Good vid. Thx for sharing
why would you need ships to pull it? it's in a canal, you can use land-based vehicles too.

I'm Lovin it!
