Nothing aside from mental preparedness. It's that simple. When it happens - we're all in the dark again. I won't delve into how I came to this conclusion because there are so many intricacies but here it is: We shouldn't worry about a Carrington level CME because the one we're going to take will hit harder than that due to our weakening 'magnetic sheild' [layman terms, trying to keep it simple] that exists around the Earth which was much stronger when the Carrington CME hit us. My semi educated guess would be this - it's not going to happen for about another 9 years or so. We are crossing the Galactic Current Sheet and experiencing a Magnetic Pole Reversal. I know this sounds crazy but I can assure you....it's not.
Every electrical device with a circuit board or wiring would become nothing but paperweights. We'd be thrown into the stoneage worldwide. The only reason the Carrington event didn't was because we didn't have a world full of tech back then. Storing data offline would be redundant....... you wouldn't have a working PC or laptop to access the data.......also, you stored it on a HDD/FLASH device......so there is circuitry, magnetic discs etc.......you're screwed anyway. Unless you own a very deep cave with its own power source and all your tech was housed in said cave and within a Faraday Cage.......you'd still be pretty screwed.
So what we need to do is switch everything off now in preparation, then, after the event...... plug them into the wall and switch them on using the current obtained from a non existent power grid?
I'd say most people would care more about clean running water, food, shelter than sitting on their ass trying to generate enough watts to power a fucked out PC so you could have your pedo lists, resignation lists, memes etc back to show a crowd of hungry displaced humans. But what would I know.....
So yeah I think what the OP was saying is there will not be a real event like this from the sun that will be the cover story. So the real question is how desperate would they be? Will it be a temporary comm out or will they really go so far as to make it sor things are really messed up for like a long time. I do like the closed microwave idea you guys have apparently the microwave does not even have to work that is neat.
it's essentially already a passible faraday cage, thats why it doesn't cook you when you watch your popcorn.
anyway i do think anything is possible these days, an EMP going off over the center of the country would fuck things up for a long time.
even a grid down situation would be horrible for the cities, lots of folks in the country have generators or know someone who does... many of them now have solar and wind and battery banks.
but an EMP would fry that.
i believe the "metcalf sniper attack" was a precursor to a larger planned attack, check that out if you have time.
the seals ran a post incident investigation on it and it scared the shit out of people how close they got to taking down the west coast grid for weeks, possibly months. they also said a coordinated attack at multiple points would cripple the national grid for months.
I meant I didn't know a microwave would work for a faraday cage, that's cool. So they seed ideas all the time that don't ever get implemented so I really think that a possible attack and the severity of that would be variable I think it just really depends. I also think that an information shutdown also means that they would have to shut down their mind games and their keeping tabs so I think a possible declass would have to be enough for them to sacrifice that, OP thinks it would be a last resort.
But wouldn't the information still be there waiting for people to see after the blackout is over?
I dont think all of it will....safer to download to a removable storage device to keep things safe and you can reinstall later...
Blessings
There is a whole lot you're missing. Here, have a slice. https://imgur.com/a/Fq4iwz5
Thanks fren... I missed a whole lot is right...what can be done?

Correction: Every POWERED device with a circuit board...
If you save to a free standing hard drive (not plugged in) or USB memory stick, it would be unaffected.
thats actually not true at all.
the EMP causes arcing all over boards weather they are powered or not, frying out all sorts of components...
essentially... there is a reason all your new electronics come in static free bags.
an event like this would fuck up everything.
next time you see an old microwave on the side of the road, or yours stops working... don't throw it away... just use it as a cheap faraday cage.
perfect for storing hard drives, portable storage drives, walkies, things like that...
Oh neat.
So what we need to do is switch everything off now in preparation, then, after the event...... plug them into the wall and switch them on using the current obtained from a non existent power grid?
You mean noone could figure out how to build another computer and all those computers still in the box would be fried too? Well, ok.
I'd say most people would care more about clean running water, food, shelter than sitting on their ass trying to generate enough watts to power a fucked out PC so you could have your pedo lists, resignation lists, memes etc back to show a crowd of hungry displaced humans. But what would I know.....
Ahh, see still so much I don't know. Would this be true for a device powered off and not connected to wifi?
Everything is toast.
as far as i know even if the earth gets blasted by a massive one of these, it would only effect the side facing the sun.
either way it wouldn't hurt to back up all your stuff onto portable storage then place those drives in a closed microwave.
even if it no longer works to heat up food, it's still a rather basic faraday cage that can protect the stuff inside.

yeah microwave first cause it's cool...
