Looking to move to Texas and leave California behind. I don't even know where else I can ask this question without being banned, so hoping some frens can help me out.
I have a young kid who hates masks along with me and my wife. I need to make this flight for a job, but just want something breathable. I don't care if it works. The vaccinated people are safe.
Any of you have any recommendations?
Black speaker cloth from your old hifi speakers, you can see through it if you hold it up to the light but looks good when it’s on your face, you can breath through it 100%, it’s the only mask I’ve used
I made a breathable mask from 1/8" thick loudspeaker foam sewed to mosquito net for windows. (I couldn't get hold of loudspeaker grill cloth on this island but it sounds ideal.
If all else fails, simple cut out the inner layer(s) from a standard "surgical" mask.
Here in Greece, the airlines INSIST on a surgical mask. They won't let you on board without one. So cutting out the inner layer(s) is the only answer. (You can also glue foam padding inside to space them away from your face.)
Buy a two-ply paper mask and cut out one ply in the interior. I cut holes in mine whenever I fly. Also, bring lots of drinks on the plane so you can periodically lower your mask for sips.
Take a paper towel and use duck tape one piece on each side and tape it to your cheeks. Or toilet paper, on y lol, draw a shit stain on it...lol

Look on Etsy - breathable or mesh mask. I bought some a while ago - I call them my “clown world” masks cuz you can see through them a little. Since there’s no rule about what is an “acceptable” mask, it’s hard for anyone to say they aren’t acceptable.

Do you or someone you know knit? I knitted one with cotton crochet thread and large needles so it has nice holes to breathe through. I can send you the pattern if you can find a way to get it knitted. I also found a thin mask made of chiffon on Etsy. That’s easy to breathe through, too.
I was trying to attach a picture, but can’t figure it out. I rigged a mask that is cloth on the outside, but attached a “chef’s shield” underneath it. It has a chin rest, so holds the top layer away from your face ... and you can breath. I’ve worn it on three airline trips and no one has noticed.

I got the above for my kids for school ... in the skin color. They have holes on the backside and my kids have worn them with the holes facing in front ... no one notices because they are skin color.

Get a plastic face shield like hairdressers use. They are very inexpensive on Amazon. The ones I saw came in a box of four for $9.

Bauer (hockey) makes a really breathable one that seems to be “one size fits all.” For a while they made us play hockey with fukkin masks on. What a joyful and special time that was. But for just normal “have to wear a mask” situations where you’re sitting around or walking, this would be an excellent choice. They’re $9.99 and Pure Hockey has them, most pro shops also online at Bauer.com etc

Handkerchief linen is very thin, I made some for my husband and kids. I also bought some stretch material, don’t remember what it is called, see through but layerd 2 so you couldn’t see through it but tolerable. Chiffon, a little difficult to work with but 2 layers it’s still breathable but not see through. Buy a cheap thin mask at target and cut out the first layer on the inside. That might be tolerable. I wouldn’t recommend the paper ones. One of my state senators spoke to a school board in my county, I did’t know this but he said after 30 min the fibers in those masks start to break down as they get moist and then can be inhaled. Stay away from the 32 degree masks or ones like it, they are one layer one piece. They are suffocating, we borrowed one from a friend to get tested and my 11 yo dropped from 98 to 93 oxygen saturation after 1 min. I decided to play around with it and I dropped from 98 to 83, but I already have problems with my nose.
I was looking for the same thing since I'm required to wear one for work. My mother likes to sew so I ended up asking her and she was able to make me a thin one. Before that though I was thinking of buying a cheesecloth one from etsy.
