My issue comes with the idea that our trash/recycling is part of our property taxes, whereas, my old neighbors in PA that we're friends with, they have no issue with any of this and it's a privatized business. Probably should have led with that in my initial post, I believe it's mismanagement of funds as they were claiming a massive deficit trying to "clean up" from the pandemic.
I hold a CDL..in NJ....I drive a school bus currently..There is definitely a shortage of CDL drivers nationwide. 1 million alone are needed to drive busses. The regulations are killer, drug tests are almost monthly (no pot smokers kek) the medical and written tests as well as the state and federal requirements are very strict for all CDL holders which makes it a difficult license to obtain.
I was recently contacted by another school system to drive for them with a pay increase of $10.00 an hour (yep I took that offer) and now have to go in today to be re-tested by the state to obtain an additional endorsement...We have 76 routes and 38 drivers at my current district with 21 schools to drive for...we normally have 80 drivers! Times are tough.
I know many Truckers...companies are offering 10k sign on bonuses and contacting them to get them to switch companies...There is definitely a shortage nation wide..
There's definitely a trucker shortage. From what I understand, younger people aren't getting into trucking and the majority of truckers are older.
The federal rules instituted some time back (5-10 years ago or whenever) drove a lot of truckers away (no pun intended). There are strict rules about driving time in a 24 hour period that often end up being nonsensical. Trucks have some sort of electronic system that tracks their drive time and won't let them drive until enough time has passed.
Yep. Likely a good chunk of the older population retired early due to the china virus and all of the general unrest that went on starting in 2019. Also the crippling side effects of paying people to stay home on unemployment didn't help.
When you can make big money doing stupid shit on tik tok or playing video games on twitch or YouTube we think the youth is going to want to actually work a living? Social Media and platforms like YouTube, twitch, and Tik Tok are going to destroy this country if it already hasn't happened. I currently have my CDL as well but I'm just sitting on it currently.
What class CDL a vehicle requires is based on its tonnage and whether or not it has an attached trailer.
A Class B commercial driver's license is required to operate a single vehicle with a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds, or tow a vehicle not heavier than 10,000 pounds (Source: https://driving-tests.org/cdl-classification-licenses/)
So you need a Class B commercial license to drive most industrial trucks that are NOT 18-wheelers.
I don't know why there's a "shortage" but my husband, who just got a trucker job said that most trucking companies are hurting for drivers bad. I'm also assuming that you need a CDL to drive a recycling truck, so a trucker shortage could play into that.
Yea I mean I get there is legitimate shortages when it comes to trained drivers since the facilities themselves are a year behind with the pandemic and closures. But to say that there's magically not enough people to do the recycling job that they had been doing before the crisis even started is wack. Not to mention, my trash pick up hasn't skipped a beat this entire time.
Ultimately a symptom of over regulation. The regulation on the drivers for hours driven. The regulation in some areas that trucks are allowed on the streets. Not as attractive to young people as a career. Time away from family....
^This, it's something I've been wondering about but didn't know whether we were still in that bubble of unemployment compensation that's helping them earn more than actually working.
Considering how decimated the trucking industry is with over regulation and razor thin margins it’s no wonder there is a shortage.
No one in their right mind would buy a truck and trailer these days.

Our area stopped picking up recycling. "Too expensive" residents can take things to drop off locations...inconvenient

Once your recycling gets to the facility and gets sorted, it must be trucked to another location. Otherwise, it starts piling up.

hOw DaRe ThEy PuT uP a BoRdEr!!!
Class A or Class B CDL is needed for 18-wheelers. Class B or C CDL for vehicles with more than 16 passengers.

Probably still something stupid though.

Oh I believe there's some stupidity afoot definitely.

Hi neighbor!!! We are not alone!

Truckers make more money sitting at home, collecting unemployment.
And their back doesn't hurt from bouncing around in the seat all day.

how is there a driver shortage? are we suddenly hauling a lot more than ever before?
Fake and gay manufactured shortages...they will continue to get more absurd to wake up those still sleeping...
