Some people with specific genes don't metabolize folic acid well with their body. It throws off some of their body's systems. They need actual folate from real food
I need to look into this. I have the MTHFR gene issue, too. Maybe a few of my ills (not serious...mostly irksome) could be alleviated by paying attention to what I eat.
This is an extract of a position paper by Dr. Joel Fuhrman (available only by subscription), who has written several books on nutrition:
Tumor cells (and all other cells too) need folate to
divide and grow. Low folate status is associated with
DNA strand breaks, impaired DNA repair, mutations,
and aberrant DNA methylation — these are factors
involved in cancer initiation. However, if a few cancer
cells are already present, it is excess folic acid that
can drive tumor growth.1
This could be dangerous
for someone who has an early stage tumor but is not
aware of it. 2 We need to strive for balance in our
folate intake — this means getting plenty of folate
from green vegetables and other plant foods to fuel
normal folate-dependent processes, but steering
clear of enriched grain products and synthetic folic
acid supplements. Excess folic acid is a tool with
which tumor cells can produce the raw materials
that allow for rapid, uncontrolled cell division.1
In short, adequate natural folate from food
protects against cancer initiation, and excess
folic acid can promote cancer progression.
This may explain why there is some disagreement
in epidemiologic studies about whether higher
folate status is protective — the current state of
the research suggests that increasing folate status
to adequate levels from low levels is beneficial, but
producing excessive levels via synthetic folic acid
is not. 2, 3

Yes, many people can't metabolize this fake nutrient and it can cause all kinds of problems, such as autism in children (further exasperation of the issue we see now)... a major reason why I don't consume bread or flour and limit my son's consumption. MTHFR gene. Look it up. Many women who are savvy search hard for prenatal vitamins with "folate" in it (which is naturally occurring), vs "folic acid" which is fake. People aren't consuming enough natural foods (allegedly) to get folate so the govbmt is trying to "help women out" by putting this fake (and possibly dangerous) chemical in the processed foods.
For y'all saying it's fine, I'd look into it deeper. It's not fine, imo.
It's a risky venture. Many people, like myself, cannot metabolize folic acid, it becomes toxic. We must take methylated folate. Folic acid can actually cause fertility b issues and miscarriages. MTHFR
Folic acid is a very valuable supplement. I take it every day, our soils are depleted and we aren't getting the trace minerals we need. Things like Folic Acid, Shilajit, Humic Acid, etc can be very good for you.
That said, Government should not be adding this on people's behalf (assuming that's what's happening here?).
I started making my own bread after looking at the ingredients lists on most bread products. Seriously its as long as a book! Potassium bromate is in additive in almost all bread in the USA. Its illegal in almost every other country because its a carcinogen! They add it to our bread because they argue it helps improve elasticity of bread products. Seriously? Would any of you complain about the elasticity of home made bread? Fml man. Yeah Folic Acid is a good thing so why don’t we obtain it naturally or through an optional supplement? Tired of big brother always deciding whats best for me. They added Fluoride to the water and we all know what a shit show that has been.
Folic acid is very good and benign it goes out of the system when not used. Problem with pregnant women is that don't take enough and can cause deformities in the baby
Folic acid appears to be very safe. It reduces the risk of Spina Bifida.

Good! I'm glad you have relief. :)

I can't eat bread anyway.
Hey, nor can I. The yeast makes me bloat like a balloon. In fact it gave me a hernia.
Can't drink beer or eat grapes, either. :(
howzabout sterilizing all commies instead
Folic acid is fine. The Roundup and other GMO poison is what will get you.
It's a vitamin B, should be alright.

It's fine, nothing wrong with it being added, it may not be being acquired from the environment in high enough doses (from over farming etc).
Otherwise, make your own bread from non-white wheat sources.

Holy cow what a huge missing puzzle piece I had. I can’t believe how evil these bastards are! Wow. Thank you for the explanation.
As others have mentioned, folic acid is not the same as folate.
Folate > folic acid.
If you've not been tested for the MTHFR mutations, now's the time.
If that will be folic acid then fine.If it will be folic acid...
