Not seeing that in Midwest U.S. supermarkets. Still seeing sales on pork, beef, and chicken. The local pork processing plant is running as usual. Friends in another Midwest state say the beef and pork processing plants there are running as usual too.
Maybe if you are buying processed, frozen meals like your Picard sells, but my entire family cooks from scratch. Ask a local butcher, they would know, and I love the butcher shops in France.
Went to the grocery store today and was just getting some things for dinner nothing special. (We don't want to eat down into our food stock until we have to.) The amount of empty shelf space is getting worse by the day. As an example, there were no canned green beans, Capri sun's gone, a ton of canned fruit was gone. I know that it's nothing specific but it's starting to be noticeable if you pay attention on a regular basis.
This just adds more fuel to the fire. Damn. I swear every time I hear "food shortages" "water shortages", "stock up now" etc etc, I mostly shrugged it off because I used to think the black hats were going to crash the economy in 2016, 17, and nothing happened. Eventually I stopped caring.
But seeing this makes me think I should start stocking up just in case.
If any prepping pedes wanna give me some pointers on what I need for me and my family besides food, water and medicine go ahead and tell me.
Propane if you have a means to use it. 1 gallon of water at least, per person, per day.
Think of realistic meals for at least 2 weeks worth. (Meat/green/dairy) and get good deals at the store. Usually I see $1.29 cans for 10/$10.
It’s always good to stock up at least 2 weeks for precautions. I’m in Texas and it froze for a week with no water or power but we had enough to be comfortable. Even shared resources with neighbors. And don’t forget boardgames or cards or books. You will go nuts without power and nothing to do. Lol
Six months.
u/Conspiracytheorist Thanks pede. I tend to forget about the importance of propane. The only real issue I see is running out of alcohol, as I unfortunately have an addict in the family and if shit hits the fan and we run out and cant get more it's gonna get bad. And if ambulances cant get to us, yeah that wouldn't be good.
You can always stock up on liquor and it’s got an almost infinite shelf life. With handles of low tier alcohol roughly 3-5 dollars. Total wine near me often runs 3/$10 deals on wine as well. Or consider helping them cut back. Alcohol would definitely be a high currency in the next world.
Oh snap 5 buck!? Yeah, I can do that. I personally dont drink, can't stand the taste or feel of alcohol, so I never needed to step foot in a liquor store. I was always under the impression alcohol was expensive and "cheap" booze meant 10 bucks at best.
Hey, we’re talking about end times alcohol here. Not for a wedding gift lmao. If it lights on fire it’s the perfect price
I live in a highrise so "prepping" has been difficult but I have managed.
Water is the most important item. You can go for a while without food, heat, etc, but no water (liquid) means you're dead in a few days.
I bought 4 5-gallon containers to fill up and 2 10-gallon containers for my gray water needs.
Buying chicken stock, beef stock, veggie stock will help with hydrating foods like pasta and stuff. It will preserve your water supplies and add protein to foods. Stock can last up to a year, if frozen. I bought lots of soup, beans, oatmeal, rice, pasta, crackers, squeeze cheese (gross but for shelf life and can be a source of protein), peanut M & Ms (protein), dry roasted peanuts, and peanut butter.
I bought a small 1800W solar generator to power items too.
I am really hoping my biggest problem will be having to lug all of this to a food shelter after all this is over but I don't want to be caught unprepared. Better to be prepared and waste money than to NOT be prepared and all you have is worthless money to eat.
A decent camping rocket stove would be high on my list.
My nephew is doing the same job in France and he made exactly the same remark
Stocking up is important because they might start denying the unvaxxed the purchase of food and water.
Or the vaxxed panic with more lockdowns and cause shortages.
Current shortages at warehouses is a result of not enough workers processing and sending out to retail establishments. The warehouses and farms are struggling to find people to work. This is because most make more on unemployment than working right now.
Unfortunately, if you haven’t been prepping for a few years now, you just don’t have the time to get ready at this point. It takes years to learn what you need, let alone actually get it.
Payday is coming up on Friday for me.
I'm about to restock all of my dried goods for this winter. I live way off the grid, so basically all I eat is rehydrated beans, rehydrated vegetables, rice, and meat. The food keeps for years though. Well, perhaps not the meat. That can get freezer burned if you leave it for too long, but its good up to at least a year for most meats, longer for others.
I don't have to restock now. I've still got a few months of food left, but I don't want to be left high and dry in the middle of the cyber shut down.
Lol…. Shortage of farmers…. Lol. Farmers are getting offered $$ from Biden to destroy crops and livestock He’s creating the empty shelves ..
heard grocery stores have been stock piling inventory in preparation for food shortages. 🤷🏻♀️ Maybe higher demand is draining stock shelves now and companies can’t replenish inventory as quickly. Food plants here are all hiring
