I think the point of this is most likely to drive any of the remaining conservatives out of the federal government. That way they can make certain that they control 100% of the fed. There goes the one good FBI agent left.
A second possible read could be that if, somehow, patriots are in control, this is the final redpill to force the people to rise up (hopefully peacefully) and enact change in conjunction with the audit results.

I freshened up the resume this morning and started browsing the listings, but damn I don't really want to disrupt our life over this stupid shot.

They do have that authority. The "Federal Government" is and has been a private foreign corporation since 1865. All the things we think are "laws" applying to us such as "Codes, statues, ordinances, mandates, regulations, policies" etc. are their "Corporate by-laws". They apply to "U.S. Citizens" which are NOT "American State Nationals/Citizens", which is what "Americans" knew they were prior to the fraudulent 14th amendment.
It's no different than McDonald's deciding everybody has to where a maroon and yellow polyester shirt with a picture of Ronny McD on it.
Also, I do believe said foreign corporation is bankrupt as well. If it offers any solace to you and your wife, it's likely this foreign corporation doesn't have enough funny money "FRNs" to run out the year anyway. They're on the brink of insolvency...trying to pass it off as "our insolvency" at this moment.
