I don't really think there's an actual shortage. Where I currently live, we have a regional chain version of walmart that's not exactly locally owned, but the guy who owns it is from the general area and is REALLY pro small business. Everything he buys and sells comes from local farms and businesses in whatever area that particular shopping center is set up.
For example, they'll cut a deal with a local pharmacy to move and set up shop in their store so they get more foot traffic, and help other small businesses around the area get out of their current leases to move to their new shopping center when they build one to increase foot traffic for everyone. For the record, its always a sale-leaseback deal so they aren't collecting rent from these businesses, they're just trying to unify everyone in a front against giants like walmart, target, etc. So they can band together and all make a profit.
Think medium sized Walmart without the corporate douche baggery. Anyway, the walmart in my area is running low on stuff as well, but the store I'm talking about isn't low on anything. In fact, they've actually got new products in stock every week.
The point I'm trying to make is that I don't think there's an actual shortage, it's just some large cabal controlled companies are screwing around with the supply lines, refusing to buy certain products, etc. to create an illusion of there being a shortage of certain products. If you have a local joint, try going there and see if it's the same for you.

I agree. This is a strong possibility. It's why I try to avoid Wal-Mart and like as much as I possibly can.
Maybe suppliers are fed up with being beaten down by Walmart? Haven’t been to a Walmart in ages. But Meijer and Kroger are still having sales every week and are well stocked where I live. If anything I’m noticing less people in the stores lately. Anyway I probably have enough stuff put up to last a few months.
I haven’t seen any shortages in my area Phoenix Arizona quite yet. However if I go to the grocery store on a certain day, and they haven’t gotten a shipment in yet, then there are some empty shelves. I try not to go to grocery stores on Sunday nights, because most people shop Saturday and Sunday on the weekend, so it can be difficult to find specific sale items and what not. Try going back there in a couple days and see if it’s the same. Then I would definitely be concerned
Walmart here had plenty of sugar. I bought a lot, as it was less than 50 cents a pound. They also had plenty of 1 lb. canned hams for less than $3 each. "Had" as in I bought most of them one day, and the rest the next day. A year's supply. Yay for me. :)
Don't worry, as soon as everybody starts thinking shortage they will buy up all the TP.
I guess for some that is the most important thing in the world.
It means they are full of Sh#t and they know it.
But seriously if you think there are going to be massive shortages why the heck would tp be the thing everyone is worried about?
Without food you are not going to have to worry about tp.
Went shopping last night in Soviet Washington. Didn't personally notice any shortages aside from the huge family-sized ranch bottles being out of stock.
Because you just happen to notice a vinegar shortage. Please!
Vinegar is a key ingredient in pickling and as I 'm in the process of pickling okra and cucumbers, yes, as a matter of fact, I noticed that vinegar was nearly gone.
So glad things are stocked in your area. Was only trying to be helpful. Take care.
I haven’t checked the food aisle but I went to go get cat litter and it was like someone wiped out cat litter, food, dog food, anything pet! Aside from beds, etc of course.
I live in a rural community in SW Missouri and was in town yesterday for supplies. Dollar General had some significant holes in cleaning supplies, but grocery shelves were fairly well stocked with a few holes. Some paper goods were low stock, but that's occasionally been the case in this store even before 2020. The grocery store had no Mrs. Smith's pie/cobbler products and in fact all labels for that were gone, but that may be a supplier change because there was a different brand in place. Otherwise, no major holes of any note. The store manager told me she is having a terrible time getting Peter Pan peanut butter.
Zero Hedge had a column on this today with indications that shortages are coming due to lack of employees and supply chain problems.

Wal-Mart near me seemed pretty normally stocked, but I'm in a DC suburb.

it's been that way at my local Walmart for the past two weeks or so. I felt like I was in a communist country. Oh wait...
Oils and butter here.

Baby formula is poison anyway.
Thanks for the heads up.

I went to Safeway, in Peoria, AZ today. No shortage.
At least wait until it's real before you try to start shilling people.

Sure. You too.

FYI: cat litter is great for prepping 🙃
Cat food has been like that at Kroger for at least 6 weeks. Switching to ordering online but just saw Chewy is out of the canned food too.
