IT's even worse for Goodwill. Most of the workers are there working for free as part of their community service. Only the Manager/s actually get paid. What a fuckin beautiful scam. And now they over price everything. I've stopped going, used to love going and finding hidden gems. Now I usually only go to shithole thrift stores or St. Vincent/church related thrift stores.
This is something I have been passionate about for a long time.
Most charities or foundations are set up as tax havens for the wealthy to give their friends cushy jobs that around about image. It is certainly not about donating money to help people.
Most charities donate less than 4% a year. Preferring to sit on hundreds of millions of dollars, taking fat salaries, having lavish parties, greasing the hands of politicians, trading off of their "charity" status, and avoiding paying taxes.
I am all for charities that really put their money to work. I don't mind someone taking a big salary as long as they are doling out equal sums to improve communities and lives.
I stopped giving to these charities long ago. They are simply another graft game of the rich to avoid paying their fair share.
Find local food pantries and local crisis pregnancy help centers. You can get a look behind the scenes and be assured your money and donations will go directly towards helping people in your community. Also local women’s shelters and sex trafficking shelters.
Salvation Army will also take them if they are in good condition (and the SA will pick them up for you, I believe). Drug and alcohol rehabilitation ministries will also take used items, if they have a thrift store.
..ooooor just don't donate to any company that you feel the need to restrict your donation to.
If they aren't spending the money doing charity work, then they aren't spending the money doing charity work. It doesn't matter what you "label" your donation. It all goes into the same big pot.
I worked for a company for ten years that every year made us go to a United way branch office to listen to sob stories so we would donate out of every paycheck. They even gave incentives for doing so, things like TVs, football/baseball tickets, iPads etc. Even if it was 5$ a week. They told us that we didn’t have to donate, but they highly encouraged it. I got in trouble my last year working for this company, also when I just didn’t give a shit about them anymore, when I asked how much of our donations actually go to help people? I then proceeded to ask how much the ceos make.
Decades ago when I worked for the real AT&T. There was a campaign every year for payroll deductions for the United Way. I always gave $0.01. I privately donated to BSA and I still do.
Pretty much every ngo has this problem to my knowledge. Pay scales dramatically up as you hit the upper echelon. And they keep asking consultancies like the one i work for why they have problems getting shit done, but dont look at their OpEx numbers. Funny that.

Try to find a Salvation Army Store.
I stopped giving to major charities years ago. support local groups without CEOs earning $$$
Ronald McDonalds house. Salvation Army & St. Jude’s are the best to donate to as 90% or more of the $$ goes directly to the need & not CEOs

Where would we donate used items? Goodwill is convenient for getting rid of unwanted items. Maybe just donate them to a second hand store, I guess..

This needs sauce...
It says Natural News right on it!

Very nice insight!
United Way and MOD also support Planned (un)Parenthood: https://savethestorks.com/2019/08/10-pro-abortion-corporations-using-pro-life-messaging/
https://www.lifeissues.org/2002/04/march-dimes-planned-parenthood/
The information on how the March of Dimes got its name is inaccurate, however: https://time.com/5062520/march-of-dimes-history/
Here's the actual breakdown of how the money is spent: granted, it's not much better!

I know its amazing! Thanks for the heads up!

Ironically, McDonald’s has one of the better charities.
Saw this a few years ago and I was shocked. I won't give a dime to ANY charity or church that I don't thoroughly research first. THIEVES! 😡😡😡

But goodwill is categorized as a charity, right?
He gets my trash

I only support the salvation army.
See my source in one of the newer comments for how much actually goes to help those who need their services (BTW, you are both wrong on the amount used for the actual cause: https://paddockpost.com/2015/10/28/where-does-your-1-to-march-of-dimes-go/ )
