TREAT ALL FIREARMS AS THOUGH THEY ARE LOADED.
Refrain from pointing a firearm at anyone, including yourself.

He killed a Russian spy.
This goes WAY, WAY deeper than you are even considering.
I know right, if it was a prop weapon then how did it fire a live round? Surely the barrel would be blocked or the working parts deactivated?
I've actually done a lot of background work in film/television and have actually used their guns and props on occasion. The idea that the props department would give Baldwin a loaded weapon is beyond absurd. Those sets are run like the military. Everything is double and triple checked. There are millions of ridiculous rules to keep everyone safe.
I used to watch the show Talking Dead (recap show that came on after the Walking Dead) and they always had a segment that was a recap of "This is how we shot that scene" which was usually pretty hairy in the story, but a very slow process to actually piece together in part for safety issues. You are right, something about this smells. (My firm does a lot of insurance for this industry and this is all fully underwritten ahead of time. Anything potentially dangerous is going to be looked at carefully.)
I don't think it is just coincidence that Alec Baldwin was involved given he "played" DJT on SNL.
Whilst I have no experience on film sets etc, I too find it nearly impossible he would have had a weapon which actually worked. I served in the Army so understand weapons and weapon safety, something seems off with this whole episode imo. Maybe we will find out more in the next few days. Thanks for your insight.
One more question;
What do they do for hearing protection?
Aren't "just blanks" still about as loud as a gunshot?
Even if they aren't quite as loud, they've got to still be loud enough to damage hearing...
So how is hearing protection handled on movie sets for actors & bystanders?
Never seen any movies where the actors are wearing ear plugs, let alone muffs....
Really?
They're run THAT tight?
That's good to hear; that's how it SHOULD be, both because guns aren't toys but especially also because of how guns are used in movies; shooting at / towards / near people, etc.
This is a limited hangout and brigaded post. Gun Safety? lol
Most actors are assets
Look at a Jennifer Garner
Now, she's an asset with assets!!!!
Wait...what? Alias is a documentary?
I can't remember who said it, but it burned into my brain "national treasures, are national assets" said about celebrities. Literally very few people get famous, or at least lasting fame, without being controlled by intelligence agencies.
"The Culture War" waged against the USSR, wasn't to fight the USSR it was to take over America. They thought we'd follow the stars.
That’s kind of blowing my mind actually.
tell us what you think, Ian
