What do you think about being listed as being an organ donor
🗣️ DISCUSSION 💬
I've always had it marked that I could be an organ donor on my driver's license. I've become untrusting of the system in recent years however. Bad idea?
Mom was the head nurse. They kill you first. If they can save you they wont if you are an organ donor. They will try and save the organs but not the patient.
I'm thinking the urgency to save those organs is not for the lives of other patients but because of the $$$$ the hospitals will charge for those. I'm sure they charge...right?
Yep...your parts have a dollar sign attached to them...even your skin and bones...
The hospital only gets paid for the tests and Operating room time, supplies etc.
The hospitals do not get paid for the organs.
Each region (urban centers or states based on population and geographical size) has a non profit OPO (organ procurement organization) that takes over all billing (once brain death has been determined) and has a nurse (separate from the hospital) that evaluates organ function with testing (blood, endoscopy first lungs, echocardiography for heart)
The OPO places the functional organs with transplant centers based on the list generated by UNOS. (United network for organ sharing)
The lists generated are specified by blood type, other blood tests, and then patients are ordered by degree of illness, sickest patients get offered the organs first. (This is done usually in larger regions like southern US, for instance, some organs have to be transplanted quickly less than 6hrs)
The OPO takes all costs And divides them by the number of organs of each type accepted by a transplant center for transplant. The accepting transplant center pays the price for the organ indirectly. It is called an organ acquisition fee. The transplant recipient’s insurer (either private or Medicare/Medicaid) pays the transplant center’s fee for the transplanted organ.
Thats some Planned Parenthood type shit there tho for real
yes $ rules
Never ever ever would I be an organ donor! I always felt they prematurely kill the donors for their organs. Disgusting. ThankQ for confirming.
Yeah I never signed up for that and I've been driving for almost 30 years. Figured they might not make every effort if I was available for parts.
That and I have a MAJOR problem with the idea that hospitals can profit off my organs but my family cannot.
Used to have that pink dot on my license too. Never again and haven't for years.
Worked in the medical field in my young life— plus my dad was MD who taught Med School-when ethics were still a thing— would never do it nor
Mom was very clear that we should NOT be organ donors.
How do you take it back ..do you know ? I am an organ donor did it many many years ago ..I need to get it off
I know that when you renew your license you can remove it.
Thank u it coming off ASAP
Just go renew it. What are they going to say? too soon? say you shaved and wanted a new picture. In the Trama section they save organs before lives. It's a business They make $
I'm going to do that but I'm a chick so if I'm shaving my face I'm on the wrong site .. lol thank you so much
If you are a woman leave the "shaved" as an unknown. Then wink.
Go to the dmv/bmv and they should know how
I've always been suspicious of the whole organ donor thing. It's incredible for those who have....and thank goodness there are those willing to donate their organs, but I've always been worried about wondering if there's ever been an 'accidentally on purpose' deaths at hospitals because they were in desperate need of organs. It's a dark thought, but it remains with me always.
I stick to donating blood and plasma....so I'm still helping out a little bit and my blood/plasma are restored continuously anyways.
I am not listed as such for the very same reason. Our data I think, all of it, makes its way into nefarious data mining and subsequent activities. There is NO privacy.
Don't.
Like you I had it on my license for many years. 4 years ago I decided to go and get a duplicate license and have it removed and pay for it. Because of organ harvesting we are all worth a million dollars each. Hospitals make a lot of money so I just don't see the incentive for them to keep me alive, if they can sell all of my organs.
I actually said that to the girl at the counter and she happily went in and began putting together my new duplicate license with 'organ donor' removed.
Before she printed the plastic card she had me look in the window and verify that everything was correct. It was. When she printed it out it still said organ donor.
She was very surprised. She looked on her screen and had me look on my screen, and neither one of us saw it there!
So she said we'll do this again. We did and we consciously spoke to each other and looked and verified everything we could see before the print option. Again, it printed with organ donor.
She went and got a supervisor. She sat in her chair and went into the guts of her computer and went somewhere else and came back and checked her computer...
We finally got it to print without the words organ donor. All three of us were a little nervous to be honest throughout the process.
Because of the corrupt country that we live in, the only civilized country with a for-profit health system, it is sad to really know that you shouldn't do this at this time.
That's my opinion and my experience at the DMV.
I took an anatomy course. Not all the students treated the corpse with deep respect. I knew then I would never donate my body to science.
Especially when they can get donated “to science” and then get blown up.
Strapped to chair blown up
That is horrible. And Gore didn't serve on day in jail.
Gore was sentenced in 2015 to one year deferred jail time, four years probation and was forced to pay $121,000 in restitution.
But his name is apropos. It’s like a bad horror movie.
So disrespectful. Awful for the families.
Given the rarity of organs, I'll keep mine. Don't want to sacrifice myself so they can harvest my innards to put in someone else. Gross. I just hope I don't need a transplant one day.
For my family, any time.
Donate to a health system that subsequently cuts you up and sells all your parts for profit? No.
I think they'll harvest you for the first banking goblin who wants your organs.
Or famous person. How many livers did Mickey Mantle go through, yet I see local flyers up for kids who need a kidney donor or something. It's all about the $
Used to... not anymore. F*ck em.
After seeing what the hospitals have done to get all that juicy covid money, why would you trust them over something like your life vs. nice, expensive organs?
I removed it. I think advance directive to the decision maker on what to do is better. Since I think thats something the fam member with that role can even give ok on, it covers it so why give any incentive...to you know
It is literally considered a DNR order. They will withhold life-saving treatment to allow you to die and donate. Medical professionals interpret 'organ donor' as 'eager to die' - and nobody explains that to you up front.
Your body is not going to life saving research, it becomes increased profit margins.

I’d rather keep all of my organs.
IMHO, it's a license to kill.
It’s interesting to think that in coming months/years...all of those vaxxed & boosted may not be able to donate?
Depends on what we find out in regards to microclots and organs. For instance, you cannot donate if you’ve had cancer.
The recipient will be on immunosuppressants so the organ is not rejected.
These immunosuppressants subdue the immune system so the body (self) doesn’t attack the organ (other) but it can also suppress the immune system so one-off cancer cells are not attacked and killed.
Interesting stuff.
I will say that donating heart valves, cornea, bone, skin, tissue is a big money maker (not for the family) and a pretty grizzly thing to see.
Not a chance in hell I'd donate
I stopped mine for the first time.
I took myself off the list. I've heard too many stories about dead loved ones' organs being taken without permission. Maybe they don't work as hard to save you, because they can make a mint off your parts. Whatever, I'm making sure that none of my parts will be any good when I pass.
