God isn't his name.
It is to many. Jesus is not technically how you say His name either. It is Yeshua. However when you use the name you know God by in a trivial or irreverent manner your intent is the same. Sin is within your heart not a rule that you skate by on a technicality.
Amen
I thought it was/is Elohim.
Elohim is Jesus's dad.
Or Yahweh....my point still stands.
Bless you.
Um, God has many names ie;
Jehovah, I Am, Adonai, El Sh, El Elohim, El Shadai and many more as does Jesus
Thank you wolf. I agree. In our society it has become just another phrase....usually used without thought.
I know I have a filthy mouth and am guilty of using all kinds of profanity, but I never have been able to say THAT.
I'm probably a hypocrite, I can't even read the word in my head from a book and yet I'll let F-bombs fly all day.
It rolls right off the tongue.
I'm pretty sure God isn't offended by people saying "God damn". Especially when the intent of the phrase isn't meant to say God is bad. Context matters.
Here’s what I learned as a child and still believe; If you are talking to or about God, then using his name is ok and good and right, however use of his name as a cuss word or exclamation is SIN which MUST be taken up with God personally.
As a young girl when my parents (who divorced when I was seven were still married). all I ever heard from them when they spoke to each other was constant cussing, alot of use of the Lord’s name in vain and telling each where they could go constantly screamed at each other. Having accepted Jesus at age five, I did alot of crying over this and chose to never do this and to hate it.
Fair enough, my parents fought a lot when i was young as well so I can relate. I'd cry all the time when they'd fight.
Ok, tell me why no one uses Satan’s name or others as a cuss word?…….
I dunno. Fear?
No one fears him anymore. They either hate him, don't believe him or worship him.
I hope you're right. I tend to agree. There's nothing wrong with implying God should damn the people responsible for this mess.
I'm pretty sure "in vain" doesn't mean what you think it does.
I don't know, if someone said my name followed by damn every time they got pissed or upset I might get a little annoyed.
I’m pretty sure God is very centered and not bothered by language
Amen- that’s the only reason I didn’t upvote the post. I hate cussing in general but using the Lord’s name in vain is the worst.

Therefore I find the referenced use of "god damn" quite apt.
PS- tired of these "gd" parent slide threads, always stirring the pot... so happy i can minimize the religion debate with the side bar :-)
STANDING for God is NOT a pot stirrer. I will STAND up for God as I am supposed to do. When my time is up and I am before God in judgement, I want to be found guilty of being a Christian. I will STAND for Christ.
This is to the Spirit causing the person to write this, NOT the person; Spirits of Divisiveness, Slander, Condemnation and Forked tongue, I BIND, REBUKE and COMMAND YOU TO LEAVE this person in JESUS ALMIGHTY, ALL POWERFUL and AWESOME name!!!! BE GONE and DO NOT RETURN and I SLAM SHUT And NAIL that door shut with the precious and ALL POWERFUL BLOOD of JESUS
Taken directly from your own posted comment;
“Do not misuse the name of the Lord your God, because the Lord will not leave anyone unpunished who misuses his name.” (Exodus 20:7)
Kevin DeYoung shared with Crossway.org, “The word vain (as it’s rendered in the ESV) can mean “empty,” “nothing,” “worthless,” or “to no good purpose.” We are forbidden, therefore, from taking the name of God (or taking up the name or bearing the name, as the phrase could be translated) in a manner that is wicked, worthless, or for wrong purposes.”
That is exactly my point.
Invoking the name of "God" to "Dam" or "stop" the thinkTank DemonRat PR firms from making decisions, bypassing our republic and democracy for their own evil gains; is not an "empty" call to God.
Just my two cents of course, I'm biased and didn't have the same upbringing you did, I don't/didn't mean to offend. We all have our bugaboos, mine being the ufologists/flat earthers.
If you grew up in a negative environment where parents were fighting to the point of divorce that is going to bias your perspective. I can say they harmed you or your perspective of God and you didn't deserve that, but they no doubt were not in a good place themselves. I can't judge their experience or yours; I also can't place judgement on someone, saying that Their using the name of God is for empty purposes, especially if that person is suffering.
Love you.
