Trump had the ability to affect the Smith-Mundt act, with republican control of both houses of Congress, in order to neuter domestic propaganda programs. But he didn't touch it one bit. He never even mentioned it or tried to call attention to the problem. Why would he be part of the plan but not attempt to neuter the ability of the press? He multiple times said the press is the enemy of the people, and as you mentioned everything could end pretty quickly if it weren't for the MSM.
