I work for a fire department and am the one that writes those investigation reports. Yes, this happens a LOT. That’s why it’s recommended to charge them outdoors.
I have seen plenty of e-cigarette (18650) battery vent videos to realize the potential in one of those battery banks. Pretty sure I don't want to be sitting on a huge bank of those.
Yet another reason why I am 0% interested in evs.
Plus, add in the battery pack is DISPOSABLE, and the last nail was set in the coffin
Once the vehicle battery or garage battery starts burning it’ll take 30,000+ gals of water to extinguish it. Mainly protecting exposures while it Burns itself out.
Should not be under the kitchen sink. That is too close to the oven. Put it in pantry or some other easy to access location so you don’t have to approach the fire to get the extinguisher
Remember the fire usually occurs when the oven is left unattended
I guess it depends where your sink is, just make sure it's easily accessible really. If I have a kitchen fire mine is easiest to just reach under the sink. I'm not calling 911 until I have failed to put it out myself. 3 minutes of bullshitting with the operator is probably too late for your house.
Wait till electric cars are the norm, and this starts happening in attached garages, all over the country! Charging a battery, especially a Li ION battery is still a process that demands the proper respect. When it goes south, it usually does so in spectacular fashion, as illustrated here. And when the process goes critical, pulling the plug does NOT solve your problem. I worked on golf carts, (mainly 36V and 48V electric) for 27 years.
I doesn’t look fake. He was panicking. He had water which is everyone’s first impulse to use, slipped and fell after spilling it. Baking soda would have been a good choice in a small electrical fire (you’d need a lot for that) but he just needed the right kind of fire extinguisher, which apparently he didn’t have. Everyone should have one. Best bet in that case is get out, call 911. Poor guy. He could have been burned when he fell near it.
By the way, if you’re ever cleaning your stove and there is a fire from grease- don’t open the door. Most lock anyway but some older ones don’t. Shut off the breaker for it. Stand by to make sure it’s out.
There's a reason why you see this with garbage ebikes and escooters. It's because they are garbage. Well made electric dirt bikes and motorcycles don't go through this if you treat them right
You would be surprised how stupid people can act in a fire. My last one, the wife evacuated then went back in for the dog, leaving her husband sleeping in the bedroom…. 🙄

Anything with a LiPo battery should be charged outside and away from your house. No, your garage is not outside enough.
<lawyers salivating>
LOL!
can firemen put out a battery fire in an electric car?
Nope. Even foaming it won't stop the chain reaction. Once it start there's not a lot you can do.

What are the good ways? Baking powder? Fire extinguisher?
I choose yelling at the fire to simply stop....while flailing. Doesnt work very well.
Curse words. Many curse words.
Maybe try asking the fire nicely for its pronouns. Maybe it identifies as a waterfall. Maybe it just wants someone to swim in it for once in its life.
This is the correct response. Yell "THIS IS TRUMPS FAULT" at it and that sometimes shames the fire into stopping.
ABC fire extinguisher. Every house should have one under the kitchen sink.

Extinguisher near an exterior door is best.

ABC is good for anything especially wood. The retardant melts over the hot wood and seals it to prevent air from flaring it back up.
Fake news. The dry chem does not melt it smothers. And barely large enough for extinguishing much.
I was just taught this yesterday by a coast guard inspector. I'll trust him over you thanks though.
CAME TO SAY SAME ffs normies!

Dude tried to swim away 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Holy hell! I built an e-bike a few years ago for fun. I usually charge in the garage. I'll be doing that outside now!
He opened the door, let more oxygen in.. kaboom.

Lol first time I’ve ever heard an oven referred to as a faggot. You should get a little rainbow magnet or something for it.
First time I’ve heard of a self-cleaning oven!
Yeah my first thought was “Don’t open the door!!”
Each 18650 cell has the power of on stick of tnt. I’ve got like 400 here on the counter. Maybe I’ll move them somewhere safer lol
Where do you get them from?
Recycled from laptops and medical devices mostly
Oh noooooo!!! That is terrifying! Poor guy!!! 😱
What a bitch. Open the door and put it outside.
and to think the battey in that little scooter is probably less than a TENTH of the size of a car battery.
AFAIK, this is an unstoppable fire.
It’s kind of crazy how much damage that effing thing did. Watch till the end.
good lord
looks like fun.... don't see what the problem is... made in china..... any surprises with this little flare up?
That smoke is pure poison and will 100% kill you before the fire would.
Samsung scooter?
I would be leery, approaching that in full bunker gear! And, that dude's only wearing his drawers...
I ride a bike, i'm the motor. Electric bikes are for disabled, libtards, and assholes who lost their DL for DWI, or not paying child support...
There's a reason why you see this with garbage ebikes and escooters. It's because they are garbage. Well made electric dirt bikes and motorcycles don't go through this if you treat them right
What a pathetic specimen.
Safe AND effective, new electric ebikes brought to you by Pfizer
Anyone else think perhaps this video is fake? Nobody acts like that if a fire starts in their home.
I don't think so, the panic, falling over himself, the chemical reaction to adding water.
If it's fake or staged, I would say it's well done.
