Already done here in the EU.
They stopped selling the old types, and only LED is available.
A bit more expensive to buy, but lasts 10x longer, and uses 1/10th of the energy, so you’ll save money in the end.
I see no problem with this policy, if not for the green part, the for the energy saving part with energy prices exploding.
Biden does billions of stupid things, but I don’t see this as one of them. I don’t understand why Trump stopped this, but maybe I fail to see something?
That's the theory, but I've had numerous branded LED bulbs blow. Not because of the LED itself, but because of the shonky electrics driving them.
Since they are also orders of magnitude more expensive than cheap incandescents and they don't last much (if any) longer they are not good value imho.
this
good incandescents will live forever.
Compare the best incandescents to the shittiest LEDs and yea, same price, better value
I see everything wrong with this policy. The federal government doesn't need to be mandating anything regarding fucking lightbulbs.
let the market sort it out
I have a different experience. Shitty LEDs are like half the price of great LEDs, I’m buying Phillips ones from a local shop with 3 years guarantee.
I’m changing bulbs at a rate of one per year now, compared to twice a month from late 70s when I bought the house.
I save more than 1000SEK($100) a year in electricity and bulbs each year.
The savings are greater during summer, as the older bulbs would also heat the room, but all in all LEDs are cheaper than incandescents, at least in my perspective and use.
those are all great reasons for free people to choose to produce things and other free people to buy things
none of those are acceptable reasons for the government to mandate anything.
Isn't it interesting when they force people to do shit that the market would have sorted out anyway and then act like they saved the world?
I remember doing the calculations in a rental when some globes blew. I was in the shop with incandescents in one hand and LED in the other like Mr Burns and the Ketchup. I went with the incandescents because I wasn't going to live there long enough to get value from the LEDs.
Otherwise it's LED all the way. Especially the smart lights that can be dimmed. Life saver.
Yes, you are failing to see America is the land of free choice. I hate LED bulbs. I hate LED bulbs. Repeat 100 times.
Free choice?
You didn’t even get to choose your president.
Who cares? the US is a dumpster fire under his team of thugs and this is what he focuses on?
Time to stock up!
We need the bulbs from uae they are built to last
Search "Dubai bulb"
Wow
They sure do bust out a thesaurus any time they gotta say his dumb shit policies raise prices.
If this keeps up, we may be able to ban lynching again... Again!
I prefer LED light bulbs. I’m not sure why someone would buy incandescent bulbs today.
Heat lamps.....
LED bulbs are electronic devices; they have circuit's in them, and are subject to the whacky- and potentially dangerous behavior that all electronics are subject to. Regular light bulbs don't have those issues.
Once you have to throw away several LED bulbs within a couple years of use due to the circuits wigging out, and causing the LED to flash with a constant strobe lighting effect, you gain a different perspective on these "save the earth miracle bulbs" that cost you $8 a pop.
yes
you're describing a free market coming to a conclusion that is both modernized and (potentially) more environmentally friendly- that is good.
the federal government making mandates about lightbulbs is not good.
Electrician Here.
First let me say that "Mandatory" anything is awful. Let people choose what bulbs they want and where they use them.
Second buying LED bulbs and how well they perform entirely depends on the manufacturer. A poor Chyna product isn't going to last as long as a good quality American made product. Thats true with most stuff.
With that said, LED is the way to go if you want to save money on your power bill. Currently LEDs may be more expensive in the short term, but your ROI is going to much greater in the long run. You can run more LEDs on a single circuit than you can regular incandescent bulbs.
Every home in the US has at least one 15 amp breaker. a regular 60 watt bulb uses about 0.5 amps. So you can put 30 incandescent bulbs on one 15 amp breaker before it overloads. Where you can buy an LED bulb that uses about 8 watts which equals to about 0.067 amps. Using only the 8 watt bulbs, you can put almost 224 LED bulbs on one 15amp breaker before it overloads.
