It seems to me that Durham has used a single charge of a relatively minor crime, against a relatively small player, to force a larger conspiracy into the public eye.
He has also used it to demonstrate it is practically impossible for the prosecution of a Dem operative to receive a fair hearing in D.C., which also can be construed as a conspiracy unto itself.

I think this may be a set-up of a show trial for the DEVOLUTION to move forward into another phase. To show all the Judicial system is compromised, as well. So now we have the Legislative, Executive and the Judicial systems compromised, and now the Military can move forward.
We also have Durham with multiple indictments still unsealed. Who's next in the batter's box? Joffe? Elias? Mook? Hillary for America 2016 Campaign? DNC?
I think this trial opened the door and Durham slid his foot in for more indictments. This is why the judge would not allow connected, but far afield emails to/from Sussmann & Elias & Joffe into evidence. This was a charge of Sussmann lying to the FBI.
So, we will climb one more rung up the ladder to others indictments and trials. And when there are four-five-more it becomes a conspiracy/RICO corrupt system and all will begin to connect in their crime syndicate. Seems like many in this RICO case are compartmentalized in their 'task', approved by Hillary to take down Trump; before, during and after he won the presidency.
For those dooming that this is a fake trial. Durham has NEVER lost a case at trial. The man is in his mid 70's. He's not going to end his career on a loss over a fake trial that the fake news refuses to cover anyway. This is a Lion devouring a sheep. The sheep has no chance.

If Durham can't awaken a couple jurors with direct evidence in a court of law this entire exercise is for nothing, and we might as well go directly into a civil war. Prosecuting one simple lie. Not the whole hoax enchilada, that would be beyond any one person's (juror's) understanding.
