My faith in Christ. Reading gods word daily, attending a Bible believing church, and a good women’s or men’s study. Without Christ I could do nothing and I would be nothing. I’ve tried it both ways, and as long as I’m following his footsteps, my life is always better. I’m grateful!
I did drugs from the age of 13 to 26, and it was because I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior, that I found salvation, had my beautiful baby girl, and the Lord gave me a new life. That was many moons ago now, but Christ is my main stay !
God bless all on this thread recovered/recovering from addiction. Will only say that I've overcome the major addiction in my life at the time 34 yrs ago. It IS my testimony. That said, there are still areas in my life that need major improvement. The lessons posted here are powerful! I will look to present this to a leader at the Celebrate Recovery program at out church to incorporate into a program. Thank you for pointing me to these videos.
I beat a bad oxy/vicodin addiction and alcohol.. spent ten years of my life miserable and drowning in both.. cost me everything. Typical day was 10 norco tens at minimum and a pint of crown.. some days way more. Everything else under the sun too.
But I beat it, got several years now.. and my life’s so much better and happier now. I thank God for it daily.
It wasn’t easy and it was hard work. I cut everyone out of my life that was cancer.. lost a lotta friends but I’m glad I did.. they didn’t actually care about me and they’re still in the same place.. doing drugs and living with drama. Or dead. If you’ve got a problem, fight for your life.. your family and you deserve to see the other side of it.
God is good, I can’t explain how much better my mental health and life are now.. I could ramble about it for hours.
I rarely get cravings, if I do they seem like a reminder of a life so long ago.. and so shitty that it’s its own reminder.
33 years clean and sober, and it's still a day at a time for me. Attend 2 meetings a week, sponsoring 5 guys, do service work wherever I can, and I could not be happier...or more serene.
Go to meetings, work the steps, work with others, and don't drink or drug, even if your ass falls off. And if your ass DOES fall off pick it up and take it to a meeting. Immerse yourself in the program and seek the spiritual Awakening that comes from living clean and sober.
I want everyone to know that there are numerous studies that the acetylated amino acid NAC that people around here talk about sometimes is incredibly good at helping reduce urges from addiction, and also help the liver and the body in general heal from abuse. It is truly amazing.
I myself have been following a path of Brahmacharya by retaining semen / not masturbating / avoiding meaningless sex and channeling my energy into day job, relationships, building my own business, and my health- very effectively for a couple months. I encourage all frens here to consider looking into the power of retention.
More energy, deeper voice, more relaxed, more confident, quicker wit, better looking skin/eyes, better connections with women.
You'll notice a moderate difference in 3-7 days.
You'll notice a large difference in 2-3 months.
You'll notice a huge difference in 1-2 years.
Your age, biology, level of porn addiction, nutrition status, activity levels, social status, goals, and determination will all effect my timelines. So this is my best approximation from being involved in this stuff for 6 or so years.
I think that is only a small part of it, there is limited research on this front. A study shows men have a large spike in test around 1 week that goes back to baseline. A large running theory on retention is that your androgen/dopamine receptors can upregulate and your SHBG / prolactin levels can normalize alongside the other hormonal/neurochemical/nutritional improvements causing the body to be in a more naturally masculine and properly stimulated state.
While more geared toward NoFap than Semen Retention, check out Gary Wilsons book or videos. /r/semenretention is a great place to learn more.

Have you heard how NAC can affect muscle building ? I didn’t want to take it cuz I’m trying to bulk at the moment and it supposedly interferes in the muscle repairing somehow
Ive read a bit about protein synthesis being affected by antioxidants, there is likely a small conflict with hypertrophy. But NAC has such positive benefits I dont mind much, and I lift weights too.
I wish I could add some words of wisdom on how to stay sober, but perhaps something encouraging none the less.
Just because you have a slip, it doesn't have to be a full blown relapse. Pick yourself up, dust off, and get right back up there and don't beat yourself up. It happens to all of us and the best of us. Not necessarily relapsing, but at some effort in life.
From a friend when I was in rehab a couple years ago: "It's easier to stay sober than to get sober."
Also at rehab heard at a meeting: If you're tired of starting over, quite fucking up!"
Don’t forget… I think that you’re gonna be starting that Tito again. Whatever sweets you want now, indulge. After that you’ll have to steer clear for a while.
I made a real effort last week to eat small amounts at a time over a few minutes to reduce the amount I ate to get satiated. I made sure to drink enough liquids too.
This helped me. I had my breakfasts in portions while I did some other tasks.
Some are good. Be careful that some types of keto sweeteners have weird aftertastes like erythritol, i prefer when its mixed with monkfruit. The company Lakanto makes one.
Gratitude. That's what keeps me sober. I find it in the smallest blessings. No matter what is happening, I know happiness is a choice for me now and Gratitude is the bridge to it.
95 days sober here.
Way to go!

This is the answer.
Check out this powerful short video testimony of how the Bible addresses addiction and why it's so powerful.
Here's a longer one if you watch that one and want more
Thanks I’ll watch those videos later today. I just woke up I need to get my breakfast Nam Nam Nam Nam Nam Nam Nam!

Best of luck to all following this path.

Out of interest. what was the difference you found while practicing retention and how long was it before you noticed the change?

Thanks for the information. Do you happen to know what the effect on testosterone levels is?

Thanks fren.
My pleasure
What about /nofap
It has some gems but is mostly noise. SR sub has more of an intelligent scientific and spiritual discussion environment.
You can say that again!
What is retention
Not ejaculating.

Do you notice benefits?
Yeah, I think I have less negative thoughts now. Like my brain calmed down because I reduced oxidative damage to myself.
Interesting. I might start taking it now. Was just worried about not gaining muscle
Keto and muscle building exercise was my physical key.Finding someone for me to care for was the another.
I wish I could add some words of wisdom on how to stay sober, but perhaps something encouraging none the less.

Eat food. I used to eat a small lunch so I could get a buzz easier after work. When I’m full I don’t feel like drinking
If you can give up something as addictive as alcohol, then giving up pie should be a piece of cake!
And giving up cake should be as easy as ....
I think what you might need is a keto pie substitute which fills you up.
What's delicious and hefty?
Don’t forget… I think that you’re gonna be starting that Tito again. Whatever sweets you want now, indulge. After that you’ll have to steer clear for a while.
How fast are you eating?
I made a real effort last week to eat small amounts at a time over a few minutes to reduce the amount I ate to get satiated. I made sure to drink enough liquids too.
This helped me. I had my breakfasts in portions while I did some other tasks.
lol so do I normally. I was brought up with rescue animals. Eating fast was strategic!

I got you fam. I think you are likely thinking of Thomas Delauer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJHxt6mDDic
And pass this info along to Paul Pelosi!
