Did people desperately want a conviction? Yes. But down deep they surely had to know that wouldn’t happen. And a serious, experienced prosecutor like Durham did too. When you step back the Defense, several DS witnesses, and even the jury basically stipulated to the larger conspiracy as a way to acquit Sussman.
He chose to have it in DC where he knew it would be compromised. You don’t win over and over and suddenly lose to a minor trial like this. He got his public info and going after bigger fish. Sussman matters not.
