Beyond that, batteries are environmentally destructive in their manufacturing and disposal. Lunatics would rather live in fantasy land. As long as there's no tailpipe emissions, it didn't happen.
And (black) child labor used in Africa for mining cobalt. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4764208/Child-miners-aged-four-living-hell-Earth.html
Came here to say this.
Indeed, especially so when the government outlaws the mining and processing of rare earth elements needed for EV batteries here in the United States where we have far more environmentally friendly ways of doing that work relative to China.
But as we all know, pollution and environmental damage somehow doesn't count when it's happening overseas, especially in China.
To be technically correct, a battery cell DOES produce electricity (by definition). Otherwise it's simply a capacitor. Of course, a battery cell produces electricity only until the chemicals are depleted; at that point it must be recharged or replaced.
C/P While a battery stores potential energy in the chemical form, a capacitor stores its potential energy in an electrostatic field. In simple terms, batteries store and distribute energy in a linear form – like a constant electrical flow. Capacitors, on the other hand, distribute energy in short bursts.
They take that "pro wrestling referee" approach!
This is my preferred redpill when I encounter someone from the Cult of Battery:
The gas in my car came from oil extracted from the ground right here in the USA under strict environmental oversight by union workers making over $25 an hour with full benefits.
The minerals in your EV battery came from a hellish mine in Africa with no regard for the environment and extracted by poor little impoverished African 4 year olds who are routinely beaten and mistreated. Black Lives Matter right? If you truly believed that you would buy a gas powered vehicle to fight the west's gluttonous demand for batteries which is driving more African children into deplorable conditions and child labor. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4764208/amp/Child-miners-aged-four-living-hell-Earth.html
That's a good one. I'm going to add "living wage" to the union workers somewhere in there, to get the extra pavlovs flowing.
Not only that, but the capacity of the batteries is terrible and they take awhile to charge. Try driving 10000 miles in an EV and it will take you probably at least a couple extra days just spent waiting for it to charge every 500 miles...
Every 500 miles? I’d love such a range… also, YMMV given the outside temperature…
…according to the salesman.
My bad I was just guessing it was near what a tank of gas on a regular car was. Apparently EVs suck worse than I even thought lol.
I drive a typical 56 MPG with my Diesel powered Peugeot. To hell with these cars aimed to milk the urban hipsters.
It's a damn shame domestic car manufacturers don't build more diesels. My understanding it's been due to the increasingly draconian emissions laws but man oh many do those engines get great mileage.
I drove a volvo suv with a diesel a few years back while in england for work for a few weeks. Great vehicle/engine.
EXACTLY!! My friend has a diesel VW we drive from Illinois to Yellowstone Park - usually we split the price for gas - the last few years, it's been around $250 / each for the ENTIRE trip - including driving around the park, etc. Of course, this year, it will be more - but I LOVE her diesel car!
Diesels are MASSIVELY underrated by Americans. I still think it stems from the 70s/80s clusterfuck GM perpetrated trying to put diesels in Oldsmobiles.
I'm a fan, myself. I couldn't even GUESS the record for miles put on a 300 Cummings without major overhaul. I bet it's a fucking SHITLOAD, though!
There was a post on reddit /r/cars the other day about actual EV mileage a guy was getting. He was getting way less mileage than advertised.
My VERY green daughter and her BF decided to rent a TESLA to drive from Dallas to Peoria, IL - they were SO excited - until it took them TWO FULL days to drive what is usually a 12 to 14 hour drive. They had a hard time finding charging stations, and it took forever to charge the car before getting back on the road. I can say with certainty that this opened their eyes to owning an EV!
I'm glad they learned the hard way! Anytime I ask someone how they expect me to drive 700 miles to get to my extended family in an EV, their answer is usually, "Well not everyone has to do that!" Along with, "you should own two cars for that kind of situation.'
Oh, so now you want me to own more than one vehicle just to go visit my family? That's insane.
That would be the case wouldn't it lol.
Meanwhile, they have the 'option' that you can have a 'fast' charge using 480V with up to 300 A, which apparently can do a full charge in 30 min. It's only about 72 kW if that's accurate.
The electrical grid could handle about 15 million cars like that... if too many charges at the same time, some stuff might have to get shut off.
Holy crap!
Cmon, it's their delusion.
Some batteries Do create electrical current. Baghdad battery for example. Clarify your broad statement to specific batteries. To say that batteries don't create electricity is false.
It takes energy to refine the materials for the battery.
Sounds like the girl has never heard of clean solar and wind power, that generate almost as much power as the fossil fuels that were required to manufacture them.
Coal, uranium, natural gas, and diesel power plants are being systematically shut down, de-commissioned, over taxed and destroyed (for us plebes) by Bidens climate zealots embedded in the regulatory bureaucracy. These zealots are rabid in their belief that they can regulate 'clean". And on top of that, they just don't care about the effects on useless eaters.....
The funny thing is that we have decades if not centuries of fuel stocked up for the nuclear plants. All we have to do is dismantle all the nuclear warheads. On top of that nuclear plants have zero emissions. They're also safer than any other form of power generation even despite things like chernobyl.
On top of it the enviro-fags say pipelines destroy the earth when they never left the Starbucks with free WiFi to go to a rare earth mineral mining operation, wanna talk about destroying the earth. Strip mining is an eye sore.
Depends on the type of battery.
plus all of the internal parts have at least plastic (oil based) so digging up all the lithium, copper, nickel, aluminum, lead (thought was illegal to use in consumer based products) https://www.greencarfuture.com/electric/making-of-ev-batteries
https://youtu.be/S1E8SQde5rk sorry for YouTube link. Ted talk about electric car contradictions.
Bedrock Point.
Electric vehicles are are a great supplement, not a replacement.
Some will spout, "but solar".. but you need a MASSIVE solar cell to power a car. massive, and it will take days to fully charge.
this is really important to explain to people. libtards seem to believe solar panels and wind power are free
That's mostly true, but nuclear plants are zero emission.
They would hate it if this went viral
