The “God particle” is a poor nickname for the Higgs Boson, a particle that theoretically gives regular matter it’s property of mass and helps clean up our theories of how particle physics works. Has nothing to do with God or the spiritual world, aside from the fact that God created the Higgs Boson if it exists.
Personally, I don't think anyone believes a word they're saying, what they're doing, nor what they're "trying to find."
