This is true. Friends wife is Chinese and her parents lost everything when the banks stole/“closed” everyone’s accounts. They are secretly sending money to family through “other” channels. I remember my Great Grandparents lost it all in the Great Depression and never trusted a bank till the day they died.
Protests and demonstrations in China are usually rare to see. They usually get suppressed pretty quickly with violent crackdowns and arrests. My hope is that this protest is large enough that the govt can't crack it down and people will begin to realize they hold true power in numbers and can overthrow the CCP
