Ranked choice is bullshit
This is the problem, not having 2 candidates from one party. Basically, it's like a primary and a state should never allow this to happen. It should only ever be one candidate from each otherwise, someone could pay someone to siphon votes like happened with this race. Who really knows. There could have been voter fraud too.

This is oversimplified. Begich voters either did not make Palin their second choice, actually chose Peltola, or there was cheating. And, Begich is promising to be a spoiler again in November.
When Begich's votes went to their secondary candidate, a large portion went to Peltona. It seems like a lot of people prefered Begich, but then would have rather had Peltona over Palin. In the end, she then had 51.5% of the vote.

Must ask yourself, why did the RNC or state GOP allow more than one candidate to begin with?
Because they want to lose.
As long as we demand political purity we will loose. With no common acceptability criteria_ and we will never have that - it is easy to label anyone who disagrees with "I/ME" as a reprobate and an enemy. We need to hold fast to Reagan's dictum- nominate the most conservative candidate who can be elected. I would much rather have a 75% ally than a 95% adversary. We must stop holding ourselves in a circular firing squad. We are facing a slew of pyrrhic victories this fall with a very real chance of failing to win any control at the federal level. Now that the die is cast, we better ALL work our a$$es off
But then the RINOs keep doing whatever they want without being held accountable. If they can win their primaries, then they get our support?
I mean what is worse, enemies or traitors?
2 issues - first, RINO is a purity test and has no standard of evaluation. Just because you don't like a position someone took on one or two issues does not make him a "traitor". I bet a lot of people disagree with you on a lot of issues. Are you God who solely holds the right answers or are you to labeled a traitor because I disagree with you. Second, I offer a BGO (blinding glimpse of the obvious) - if you cant be elected, you can't make an impact.
That’s not how ranked choice works - votes from second place R automatically go to first place R and she wins. If not then Alaskans are stupid and listed the democrat second choice instead of the other R
So basically those who voted for Begich wanted either Dem or Dem lite to win, because that is certainly what that ticket would produce.
And this is why, in spite of the warnings of the nation's founders, we will always trend toward two major political parties. New ones may supplant old ones, but we will always settle back to two.
