Boy, the ones who still have jobs may end up regretting it. They will actually have to work all day.
I wonder how many will come back? The work from home genie is not going back into the bottle.
I don't know. Did you see that video someone posted of a 'day in their life at twitter?' Place is like a freaking luxury spa.
It will when you get hungry. Trust me good wages and a good job. My ass will be in the office.
Working under Elon is more like a slave wage for slave hours. He may be a white hat now but he's still the worst boss in the world.
No hes just an old school type of manager he expects 8 hours of work for 8 hours of pay and he expects people to be in the office where the work is getting done. I get the work from home argument because I work from home but right now Twitter is in a transition and when hes taking control he needs to understand how things work and for that to happen he needs everybody to be in the office.
Also, especially during a transition period, as you said, he needs everyone there.
Remote working is also complicated when you are required to maintain operational security for your job. You need to be able to be responsible, understand how to secure (and secure) your internet, maintain good home security, only use your work PC for work (no porn, very hard for the Twitter starlets, I know) and otherwise ensure that no one will ever access information that is critical.
Work from home is both a productivity enhancer and a productive reducer, sometimes simultaneously. It's extremely easy to get distracted at home, and diverge from your work to do something else. It's also extremely easy to spoof any monitoring software like Teams by using a mouse jiggler and checking back every so often.
But at home you can also work longer hours and get extra work done overnight (even if you're not getting OT for it) and prepare for your next work day.
Different jobs gain and lose different things but when you're in a transitional period due to a change in ownership, you're 100% going back to the office.
It's not just about work or productivity but also morale.
Think about Space X. That is company full of engineers who are 100% dedicated to the job and to the success of the business. Twitter isn't that but it is Elons plan to get it there. If there are 500-1000 employees who just want paychecks, you don't work there anymore. He wants to make Twitter the social media Space X. He is doing exactly what I would do in his position. Well except for firing that one dude...
Hello bitchs it's time to get back to work. And, the rooftop expresso bar is closed until further notice. BTW, it's Byo lunch like normies do. No more free lunches.
Okay. But let's talk honestly here: Twitter DOESN'T need to be managed inhouse. It CAN function remotely entirely.
I mean sure, haha Elon's making them go back to work, at the same time do we SERIOUSLY want to cheer on the status quo? The post industrial slave system we are in now is a fucking lie designed to grind the human spirit into dust. If you wanna work 80 gagillion hours a week to make your livelihood, great! You absolutely should be able to do that! But the bare minimum that gets you transportation, a shelter and food WITHOUT worry, should be 20 hours a week. Humans aren't supposed to be working a third of our lives in meaningless jobs that separate us from our families for long periods of time. The reason our country exploded is because the family unit was respected. Children worked on farms or in the family business as well as received an apolitical education. Now children are raised by the state, mom AND dad both work jobs they hate to barely get by and we ask ourselves here on this fuckin board how things got so bad...
But by all means. Let's shill for the post industrial work life that has degraded our civilization. The problem is NOT access to porn, drugs and alcohol, it's shilling for a system that requires use of such JUST TO SURVIVE. You want people to actually put down the vices and change for the better? Fight for a better world for everyone.
It's a transitional period to a new owner. It's important that they show up to the office.
Remote work can be re-assigned as Elon deems acceptable, and this doesn't state that this won't happen. Just that right now, all remote work is ending which creates a blank slate and allows him to keep shenanigans in check for now.
I hope that's what he's doing.
And in the end I may be wrong and the office could be better. I don't know specifics and you make a fair point.
It's just the concept of office work and commuting was NOT designed with humanity's best interests in mind.
These people aren't doing any work at home, and they won't be doing any work in the office.
Work from home is great. But when the company is so broken and nobody's doing shit, you have to take drastic measures, then you can loosen up.
What evidence do you have to support these claims?
Work from home is best gauged and decided individually. Just because some clowns can't handle it doesn't mean that should be the universal standard for everyone.
Group punishment is one of the laziest forms of policy decision making...
What claims? That Twitter employees aren't doing any work? That's simple: there are 7500 of them, but the website could run with a team of less than 20 just the same (or better).
That Twitter is broken? Do I really need to prove that to you?
That you need to take drastic measures when a company is broken? I think this is self-explanatory.
Like I said, work from home is great, but it doesn't work for everyone. And it only works with employees you can trust. Employees you've determined individually can handle WFH. But once nearly everyone is WFH, and the company is broken, the only real way to reassess who can actually handle it is by pulling everyone back into the office and making decisions from there.
It's not a "group punishment," it's resetting the company.
You make some good points, but it's not Twitter's responsibility to usher in this major societal change. Elon's job at the moment now is to stop the bleeding, make Twitter profitable enough to stay afloat, and bring free speech back to social media.
And how much more effective would that be if they were also pioneers of social change?
I hope their latte machine breaks.
I hope they ended their vax mandate. Pureblood Tweeps had to work remote.
The Purebloods probably make up the majority of those that kept their jobs.
Elon to former Twitter board: "Thanks for making these easy to figure out the independent thinkers." (not to mention the benefit of having a healthier, more productive workforce)
