They should also include a bill for that same campaign committeee to file a report of that person's eligibility to be POTUS. Ya know a Natural Born citizen.
That requirement is already in the Constitution. The biggest problems we have are: (1) Few have any idea what the Constitution actually says and (2) Few even care that we have a supreme law of our land. (3) The Constitution has become a mere piece of paper to be disregarded. All three include the American people who are supposed to be an informed people as to their rights, duties and responsibilities AND what that limits are of our government at all levels.
Edit Reason: clarity
It's not that long or difficult to read. It needs to be taught and tested on in US public schools. Then people here will honor it. https://theamericanview.com/
Exactly , we need to push this in every state to be added to school curriculum.
Yes, I know it is but people seem to forget it a lot.
Agree completely, but admittedly anons sometimes forget about the constitution also (e.g. the number of people calling for secret military tribunals of civilians).
It has been a long time since I read the law of war manual. But there are certain situations where a private citizen can be considered an enemy combatant when involved with treason or working with an external enemy of the country. Therefore it allows the citizen to be tried under a military tribunal.
Had a FB conversation with someone today who told me that “state centric” never worked that’s why the articles of confederation were written. I lost brain cells
The Articles of Confederation preceded the Constitution. The feeling was that the fed gov needed more authority/power but it was confined by 17 powers....which of course, they ignore. The states had much more power under the Articles of Confederation....I think the feds needed a little more. Government is like fire, a dangerous servant and a fearful master. attributed to G. Washington.
What? Smh
This!
The first thing that needs to be done is define the term "Natural Born Citizen" in the context of today's language. People on this forum have different ideas of what that means.
There are 2 types of American citizens today: citizen by birth, and citizen through the naturalization process. Natural Born Citizen would seem to most closely correlate with citizen by birth.
But some people want a more restrictive definition than that, such as citizen by birth AND both parents are US citizens AND the birth happened within the borders of the United States. None of this is spelled out in the Constitution. It is very open to interpretation.
The Constitution means what the framers intended it to mean.
Therefore, we have to understand what they understood at the time when they wrote the words and signed their names to it.
Natural born citizen was (a) born on US soil (b) to 2 citizen parents. That came from Vattel's "Law of Nations." It is why they had an exception to this rule for anyone already living at the time the Constitution was written, because none of them could qualify when the new government had not yet been established. But starting with new children being born, this was the requirement.
