So, remember Trump mentioned something about "not buying a turkey" this Thanksgiving? Has anyone else thought about this? Was he just letting us know the prices will be higher this year because of the bird flu that took out a bunch of turkey's and may be harder to find, besides the price hike?
I have 2 turkeys in the freezer, this year, my son said he wanted to cook to give me a break, because I always do. I am going to try and stay out of the kitchen, (which would be nice). It will be small, just 4 people. I think when he said that about not buying turkey, he was advising to save money and not get any. I buy mine as soon as my neighbor harvests them, and his price went up some, but he charges an arm and a leg anyway, organic, free ranges, all of that stuff. Boys they are good though. I bought a 40 pounder one year and had so saw it in half, it wouldn't fit in the oven. Thank goodness no vegetarians this year, what a pain in the ass to make two entrees, two kinds of stuffing. Pumpkin pie from scratch, I've been making it with coconut cream instead of condensed milk and wow is it good. Brown sugar and mollasses instead of white sugar, and a generous pinch of ginger with the cinnamon and allspice. Yumbo! Now I am hungry.
I don’t like turkey the way it’s cooked at traditional thanksgiving meal. Don’t mind a great turkey sandwich or fried turkey. If I cooked a thanksgiving meal we would eat Mexican or Italian just because it tastes better. When I was growing up it was a different story. My grandma was an amazing cook. At Christmas and thanksgiving she cooked collards, butter beans and corn. Turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes and homemade biscuits. No disgusting casseroles or store bought food. That’s probably the real reason I don’t care for Thanksgiving today.
We home cook everything for Thanksgiving & Christmas dinners. Sis and I use to cook the whole meal together for years when our mom & grandmother were alive, then my hubby took over cooking the turkey & gravy, while my sis & I did the shopping (black Friday) for pretty much everybody then helped prepare rest of dinner. Now hubby & I stay home and cook for us and our adult kids. My husband does most of the meal now and I help with a few things, like my sweet potato casserole, vegs, mashed potatoes (hubby peels and cooks them & I "fix" them, lol). This year though he may cook a ham or pork roast instead. We always cooked turkey because it was the only thing our kids liked growing up, now they are adults their taste buds have expanded to liking other things, lol.
That sounds lovely. I love a good beef roast or pork on the grill. I’m sure one day we will do our own thing. I’ve always wanted to go on vacation to beach or something low key for thanksgiving. Hubby wouldn’t buy into that. I like sweet potato anything except pie. I grew up hating sweet potatoes (family ate them plain) fast forward ma in law made them with sugar and marshmallows. I’ll eat a sweet potato for a meal now. My daughter is the opposite as a kid she ate anything, in her twenties barely touched a vegetable & now she cooks pretty healthy with a side of cheese 🤣 Some things she cooks should be on restaurant menus. My in laws love casseroles with the nasty cream soups, frozen Mac & Cheese, etc. I don’t touch it, it’s just gross to me. Have wonderful time with your family.
I don't make my sweet potato casserole with marshmallows. I top mine with some finely chopped pecans & corn flakes, along with other ingredients - butter, cinnamon, sugar & vanilla in the sweet potatoes and the topping. Haven't met anyone who hasn't liked it yet. It's so good. It's like a dessert, but everyone eats it with their meal.

I bet he's talking about the country and the massive issues they're running into. I wouldn't want to buy into Turkey right now.
Maybe he is saying Biden will be the turkey?
He did say don’t buy Turkey this year. Was that a message?
Seriously? If you think every Americans Thanksgiving is going to be riding on the hinges of Trump saying don’t buy a turkey, then we’ve all lost our fucking minds. I’ve already bought my turkey, and I’m going to have a wonderful Thanksgiving, regardless of what Trump has to say today, or if we have Katie hops as our governor, or the fact that her entire world is burning to the ground. I’m going to have Thanksgiving. I love turkey dinner, and I’m going to enjoy every last bite of it. Can you imagine some idiot not buying a turkey this year because they actually thought Trump told them not to. That’s a Brainwashing if you ask me.
