I would counter with it CAN be used to dehumanize and that is a real danger with any label.
However, it is an accurate descriptor for those who follow along to the tune of their programming. The NPC subroutines can be overridden, but at the same time, those people have to want to come out of the matrix. For me it's a way to distinguish those who want to stay plugged in and nothing more. It is not now nor will it ever excuse genocide.
