Sincere congratulations, Sir. My heritage traces to the founding of New Haven CT and I'm working on the documentation now.
How do you find this out?
I would imagine, like researching a family tree, the onus falls upon the individual. The other option is have someone do it for you which could cost out the wazoo.
yes...tracing becomes a bit of an obsession for self investigation and can be very expensive to have a professional genealogist do the work for you. I have all the links but my source materials are not to the standards required for lineage societies and so will continue to work on it. There are some really good resource places - I know that here in the DC area we have the DAR HQ and library, and the National Archives and Library of Congress. Those last two require access permissions. Also, Boston has the New England Historic and Genealogic Society, and the Cleveland Library is supposed to be very good also. Probably others but those are the ones I know of that will most likely impact my family tracing migrations.
My mother is in DAR. If you are interested in joining (DAR or SAR) they will help you do some of the genealogy work.
That's great! My 5 times great-grandfather was at Yorktown and I've seen his gravestone, which says "a soldier of the Revolutionary War." It's located on his farm, which is still in the family. BTW, the land for that farm was bought from Lord Fairfax.
Don't give away your DNA to any org, guys.
This tends to be research based more than DNA based, though it is not always the case and your warning is correct to give.
Agreed.
Congratulations Mr Wood!
Been there, done that. Welcome James Woods.
My grandmother was DAR (we actually go back to the Mayflower) but I found out we were Tories. Not what I was hoping for. :)
Awesome! Patriot in War of Independence - the seQuel.
Welcome to the club, sir.
Good for him.
Lets talk about the Art of War,
think, how could a person write such a document with objectivity?
' Until Next Time
lucky man, I like to think I'm descended from an Irish highway man who killed two English tax collectors before fleeing to the colonies. πππππ
James gatekeeps for the small hats. Screw him.
