Some guy on Reddit conspiracy (before that shithole got shittier) had a pretty decent explanation, and is one of my favorite “that’d be cool if it were true” conspiracies.
Paraphrasing:
It was a failed assassination attempt on the Saudi Prince’s life.
The Saudis own the top floors there. There’s been a rift in the Saudi royal family, where the new guard wants contemporary progress (tourism, technology, industry, etc), while the old guard just wants oil money. The new guard knows oil isn’t going to last forever, so they’re trying to get their country and economy up to speed with something better.
The Prince is part of the new guard. The old guard tried to take him out by staging a mass killing, where the Prince was going to be collateral damage as he evacuated the hotel. Before that could happen, good actors (specifically that “security guard”) intervened and stopped it, while the Prince made his escape (that escape was pretty well documented).
(Side-note: I was fascinated with that guard, and how they retconned his identity. My guess is he’s a really highly paid private security. But I was even more fascinated by the stand-in guy they paraded on TV a few weeks later.)
With an operation (and counter-operation) this big, no doubt there was a lot of complexity behind the scenes. Paid off hotel employees, disabled security cameras.. Real life Jason Bourne kind of shit.
That leaves the question, why didn’t chad security guard stop the mass shooting. Maybe he didn’t get there in time, or maybe that simply wasn’t his objective. Who knows.
I don’t do the story justice. It’s worth going down that rabbit hole a bit. At any rate if this is true I really hope the story comes out someday. I’d love to read and learn every little detail.

Yes, we should investigate thoroughly. There is the possibility that it was simply a mentally ill person living out a murder fantasy and there is nothing really to find. If that is the case, then we will never find anything because there is nothing to find.

It was a terrorist attack by ISIS. ISIS tweeted that they were going to hit Vegas (and another US city too) a few months before they did it. They called their shot, and did a terrorist attack in the USA. And, every govt. official, and media bobble-head has denied that fact, to this day.
Twitter has that tweet. There is record of this on the "official" ISIS twitter acct. stating that Las Vegas was going to be their terrorist terrorist target. Why has Elon Musk not produced that tweet from the "official" ISIS twitter records? And, why is everyone in the govt. and the establishment pretending that the ISIS tweet doesn't exist?
...and where is the video of Paddock entering the hotel with overloaded suitcases filled with guns and ammo?

Because a single man didn’t take dozens of rifles up into a hotel room, remove the hurricane rated window and do all that just for the fbi to never find a reason.. also his brother said it was wonky too… none of it made sense after all the details came out. I saw a video once of a black helicopter without lights leaving the building right as the shooting started. The gunshots thru the speakers and the heard rate of fire vs the known rate of fire of the gun he supposedly used, and this guy carried up all these bags of guns on his own without anyone noticing, is what makes it seem like a deep state operation and cover-up.

Still remember the night it happened. Initial reports were shots fired up and down the strip. There were so many videos from cabs with gunfire going on throughout the strip. By morning the story was a singular dude bumbstocking like Rambo from a balcony. Too stupid to make sense. Pay no attention to the helicopters full of commando looking dudes flying around at the same time
