Why is this here? Because the AI can't read pictures, yet

Not sure why you think AI cannot read pictures. Look in to OCR tech been around for a long time. We had software that could read text off of a picture about 20 years ago in consumer tech. It did a crap job then but is decent now.
Not only can AI read pictures, it was one of the VERY FIRST things AI could do. Developed in the 90s to scan and read checks.
It can read handwriting VERY well.
Especially plain text like that, some can even determine which font is being used. To block it from reading would need to obfuscate the text in some way that remains human readable.
What AI can't do reliably is read memes, because it might recognize the picture and the text, but there are layers of meaning that are beyond what an AI can grasp. That takes a human to classify the meme as blocked or not, but even then, by adding a partially transparent overlay, most of the time it will treat the image as entirely new and distinct.
Google Translate camera app does it really well, reading text.
For memes, AI is not far off from both understanding and producing.
Once that happens, you basically have mind control on demand.
I can't really say you're wrong because AI advances really quickly, and with the improvements in AI-generated art, I would lean that you're at least not far off.
The challenge with understanding is that while it might just be photo + text, take some of the LOTR memes, you can add text to almost any scene, the text might relate to the image, the scene the image is drawn from or drawn on the emotional sentiment of the scene, etc.
So, there would be plenty of opportunity for error in understanding because there are layers of understanding that might need to have an understanding of the film.
Producing memes would be much easier from that perspective.

@roboarmy is correct. "In 1914, Emanuel Goldberg developed a machine that read characters and converted them into standard telegraph code".

Repeating that AI can’t read text in pictures makes us sound like idiots
The reason memes are powerful is because AI can’t interpret the combo of the image and the text in the same way people are able to
I belive that DJT said just before he left the Oval Office that AI can't read square pictures within a circle, or was it circular pictures in a square?
I know that AI does have big problems reading handwritten cursive text.
Cursive text is hard for AI to learn, probably because the letters connect and will have different shapes depending on the word and speed written, etc.
Plus also how well people are able to write; there's the stereotype that men's handwriting is difficult to read, while a woman's is easy. Doctors basically use chicken scratch.
Exactly, but even in the less extreme, some also get more artistic in cursive writing, bigger or smaller loops.
An AI would almost have to learn each person's handwriting individually.
There is freely available ocr software that would pull the text out of the image in this post. Any novice programmer could get an easy image like this to read without a lot of effort.

It is the combination of the text and image producing a more in depth meaning that makes memes difficult for AI
The ability to read text from photos is on everybody's smartphone.
OP have you never heard of a check?
And now it’s gotten to the point where it can scan much more than pictures. It can do scans of the human body.
“AI can’t read pictures.”
😂
Well either way it’s an accurate statement. The people “dropping dead” in China early on may have desensitized the masses/people who saw that so when they see athletes dropping it may not be as bad as the fake Chinese people dropping at the onset of the virus propaganda back in fall 2019
Peak clown world.
Are you daft? OCR has been around for DECADES ... AI absolutely can read words. It could read text years before it could understand pictures...
plain standard text is very easy for ai to read lol
AI can read text, it just has trouble understanding context & putting the image to the words in the way that we can.
its like telling a redneck joke to somebody on the other side of the world who has no idea the background of the joke. they hear your words, they just don't follow.
The FBI thought...
