106 This is heavy: Warning sounded on extra weight from electric vehicles...A warning has been posted about the additional weight that electric cars carry, and whether existing structural engineering standards are sufficient. The concern is over the weight of vehicles in multi-story parking ramps. The new EV Hummer is 10,000lbs. Force = mass x acceleration.
Anyone driving the new hummer is driving a ballistic missile and is pretty much guaranteed to kill anyone they crash into.

This is also true of a Prius, Smart Car, Civic, compact SUV, etc.
This will all end in tears.
This somehow reminded of when they let too many people march on the Golden Gate Bridge. The weight was so immense that it flattened the arch and started swaying and making noises. People thought it was going to collapse into the bay.

It's the infrastructure part of the build back better plan.
When the ramps crumble, you gotta build them back better.
Another instance of create the problem to solve the problem.
Can you tell I didn't read the article...i only read your post title?
Yep, I read the entire Sundance article and my eyes got tired before getting to this one.
Still felt I needed to comment for some reason.
But, feeling kinda guilty for not resisting the urge to comment on something I hadn't read and considered deeply.
Guess I just needed to talk.
Thanks, GAW better than a bartender.
If there had been a GIF for this, I might have done it instead.
If nothing else, your sense of humor makes the post entertaining.

And with the higher percentage magnesium and other flammable metals, get the marshmallows, extra large bag. It’ll be a show.
My truck weighs 7100lbs. My EV sedan weighs 5100lbs. I think we’re going to be fine.
wut else?
So many '70s cars outweighed these electric cars, no problems
As I understand it the battery is the weighty part.
Not even close to being true.
60's and 70's cars were much lighter than if commonly believed.
My own 1970s car weighs 5100 pounds.
I have several friends with such cars, most weigh over 4500 pounds. Some even over 5300 pounds.
Even a modern large gas pickup weighs more than 5000 pounds.
EVs are smaller, more dense, more can fit on a bridge than larger older heavy vehicles.
More fit into a parking structure with those smaller ‘compact vehicle’ parking spaces.
It’ll be fun to watch.
Most cars from that era don't weigh over 4,000lbs.
The land yachts of that era do weigh a lot but most of the family sedans were about 3,500lbs.
Modern trucks are getting heavier and heavier which is why Ford went to an all aluminum bed because that weight is hurting gas mileage.
I used to have a '64 Malibu that weighed 3,200lbs.
RepubliCan'ts will blame EVs and Demoncrats will blame RepubliCan'ts.
