They're not telling us critical information about this..... and it seems they always think (wrongly) they know what's best for us. We have to be the news. It's the only way.
DAY 1. Wind direction NW to SE and changing to W to E. As you can see, throughout Feb. 3rd, the wind is coming from the North to Northwest for much of the day, but then shifts from a more Westerly direction at 8-9 PM.
DAY 4. Feb. 6. Appears to be swirling. Changing from W to E, to NW to SE, to W to E, to S to N, to SE to NW.
DAY 5. Feb. 7. SE to NW, to S to N, to SW to NE, to W to E.
I'll leave this 'as is' at this point. More information for later dates up to the present is available there. Depending on when they ignited the train cars and duration of the conflagration would provide insight on contamination for the surrounding areas. From this and depending on the day, it appears the winds were shifting in all directions. This indicates the winds carried these toxic clouds in almost all directions. The next question would be wind speeds. This would provide a rough estimate to how quickly and far the contamination traveled in a measured amount time and where it is presently possibly effecting populations.
Another question would be what safeguards can the public take. One can be assured, you will not be getting any of this information from our government. We are on our own.
There is indeed a good probability that the waterways will be contaminated. I'm more concerned with the Butyl acrylate, Ethylhexyl acrylate, and Ethylene glycol monobutyl that spilled getting into the waterways. The long term effect of these chemicals getting into the water table is very troublesome. These 3 chemicals are liquids, which if not dealt with immediately and thoroughly, would get into the ground water and affect the water shed.
Consider the 6 train cars of vinyl chloride though. Vinyl chloride is a monomer and becomes a gas at only 8 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, these cars were ignited which causes this chemical to disassociate into H2, Cl, and CO in the air. Hence, the black column of smoke rising into the sky. The H2 and Cl can easily form airborne hydrochloric acid and Phosphene (COCl2) is another gas that's created from burning chemicals like this. Depending on many factors, the HCL will precipitate in rain droplets making acid rain.
To me, the immediate danger lies in the fallout from this toxic cloud that people downwind will be exposed to. The contamination of the water shed will be a factor for years to come.
Has everyone noticed that Fetterman wanted you to know he had a stroke and that all conversation directed at him now sounds like charlie brown teacher noises just as this disaster makes it's way toward "his" state? Guess he won't be expected to answer pesky questions.
Thanks for posting this. I used to arrange rail movement of containers for a large shipping line several years ago. That the trains are now up to 50 cars long is unbelievable.
We have trains that are over 200 cars long coming out of the ports of Long Beach/Los Angeles. They’ll have three engines in the front and up to four engines right in the midway point of all the cars. They move the cars up the Alameda corridor - the below ground rail line that latest Grand Theft Auto video game is known for - and then into the City of Commerce and from there they go out all over the Midwest and the rest of the nation.
Good information, thanks for posting. My take away is the lobbyist and owners for train system modernization cut corners on safety, destroyed people’s communities, and walked away with billions.
I mean there are quite a few relatively balanced takes on the whole thing but yeah it's eye-rolling to see people still talking about right-wing disinformation as if that's the primary concern right now.
This is why I sometimes want a hot air ballon of fentanyl to explode over liberal cities. Seriously I don’t know how to save these people and the damage they keep doing to society is mind boggling.
I can’t believe a god damn ecological catastrophe is being politicized like this.
Just spoke with someone from Beaver Falls PA - 15 miles away- who said they are not being told 'anything much'. Have a call in to friends in Pittsburgh, we'll see what they say. Local burgh news (WPXI) just say 'cleanup and testing continues'.
Are we certain this is a real big thing? All the people I spoke with in that area are downplaying it. If they dgaf not sure why I need to worry for them.
Have fun. First hand accounts and videos. Just scroll and scroll and scroll. Don't even have to have an account. Read the EPA reports. Look up the manifest. Look at the individual car charts of what, how much, damaged or opened.
Well, me thinks we should be compassionate for others (even when they lack compassion/concern for themselves)... and more importantly - history has shown what happens once is likely to happen again. Next time maybe in your area, maybe near mine. iirc we've had what, 2 more train derailments since this Ohio derailment?

How many of these before 'WHs' retaliate🙄 that farmland is ruined, apparently this stuff breaks down into salt after a time which is also bad for farming

I found a link that provides recent wind direction history for Pittsburgh. Why Pittsburgh you ask? It is only 39 miles from East Palestine and was the most likely place to get such information. A 5-day window starting on February 3rd of wind direction is provided below.
DAY 1. Wind direction NW to SE and changing to W to E. As you can see, throughout Feb. 3rd, the wind is coming from the North to Northwest for much of the day, but then shifts from a more Westerly direction at 8-9 PM.
DAY 2 Changes to S to N. After 12 PM on Feb. 4th the direction continues to shift from Westerly to Southwesterly and by 4 AM the wind was from the South. That continues for the rest of the day.
DAY 3. Feb. 5. SW to NE and tapering to W to E.
DAY 4. Feb. 6. Appears to be swirling. Changing from W to E, to NW to SE, to W to E, to S to N, to SE to NW.
DAY 5. Feb. 7. SE to NW, to S to N, to SW to NE, to W to E.

Consider the waterways that this flows into. How far downstream before it isn't poisonous anymore?

Agreed

Interactive map here for waterways it seems.
Pic of the water system that I believe got contaminated. Not sure how many streams/rivers are in that area. https://files.catbox.moe/dphhtr.jpg

Where is Jim Jordan on this?

Kinda reminds me of that small Aircraft company, Boeing
I went to R/Ohio in hopes of seeing Reddit tards wakimg up but all i see in their megathread is
"Right wing conspiracies" "Right wing disinformation" "Roght wing bots"
I dont believe it

I’d like to subscribe to your newsletter.
Between the virus, pseudovaccine, and burning chemicals, it's clear the govt is definitely NOT trying to slaughter as many people as possible.
Yep. Nothing to see here

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette hasn’t reported on this since 02/10.
Most excellent thread!

A derailment has since happened in TX, SC, and LA and you its right wing extremism to question that this is all a coincidemce?
Probably no need to go check for any replies
Thank you!
Great thread. A must read for the whole community here.

Or don't, the choice is yours.

Remember in that Chernobyl show where they are all hanging out at the plant? Didn't end well.
This whole sitch definitely brought back thoughts of that show
