Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Two Men Think Electric Vehicle Will Make Great Getaway Car... Then the Battery Starts Running Out
https://www.westernjournal.com/two-men-think-electric-vehicle-will-make-great-getaway-car-battery-starts-running/
Don't you just hate it when there is no charging point outside the bank you are breaking into?
Worse is when the getaway driver is charging the getaway car but the rest of the gang finish their bank robbery way ahead of schedule and the battery is not even half charged.
I see a need for a major FF as a distraction. See something say something! Keep your head on a swivel.

My hope for humanity grew a bit today. Woman in her mid-30s came in with her 10yr old kid, had 2 flat tires and thought it would take hours to do. I asked her if she wanted to learn how, and we spent the next half-hour replacing both tires using equipment they could get at a normal tool shop.
Good thing they don't have electric cars cos no spare tire in the trunk
Hard to admit this, I'm handy enough with a wrench, but I never knew one could change out a tire on the rim without dedicated machinery.
Unless I misread, I'm going to have to look into this. Wife's car needs new tires. 👍
It's extremely easy.
Jack up the car by putting it under the frame (or in the case of most toyotas/audis via the "designated jack points"), making sure there's a bit of clearance between the tire and the ground.
Set up a stand on the frame, making sure it's within a foot of the edge of the tire you're changing.
Slowly lower the car onto the jackstands by lowering the jack (oftentimes it requires you to turn the jack's handle).
Undo the bolts using an impact driver/torque wrench (if you get your tires changed at one of those "cheap" places they'll often overtighten the bolts, making it extremely difficult to get off).
Remove/replace the tire, making sure they're balanced first (there are tools like "bubble balancers" which allow you to do it yourself, if not most mechanics will charge about $60-70 per set). When putting the bolts back on, make sure to do so in a star-shaped pattern instead of clockwise to prevent imbalancing/one side being tighter. Oftentimes you'll want to "hand-tighten" the bolts first, then set them to the correct tightness using the wrench/driver which can usually be found in the owner's manual
Use the jack to re-raise the car, remove the jack stand, slowly re-lower the car, and you should be good to go.
Kudos to you for teaching people your trade.
Oh, I think of it more as life skills. If more people knew how to change/rotate their own tires or do oil changes, we'd see less stories about catalytic converters being stolen and cars breaking down extremely fast. If someone can do those tiny maintenence things and put rain-x on their windows every 6 months, they should realistically only need to see a mechanic once a year.
Well I am smoking and having a few beers lol. I quit soda pop and tv like 35 years ago. Sugar I haven't messed with for many years. Since I quit though now I can have some! I was vegetarian for several years. Oh it was good to eat that spicy korean chicken and beef that day that I said fuck this!
Congratulation on quitting vegetarian. You're no longer a slave :D
You have to use berries and fruit as your sugar, a little honey if need be. Bread and pasta are sometimes bigger sources of carbs than sweets I think.
I heard somewhere if you take local honey you'll miss the summer allergies or hayfever. I think honey is good and great sub for sugar. Bread and pasta is the dangerous ones.
…and beer. Keep on the good job, Fren!
I was addicted to meth and heroin for 10+ years. Been sober for like 3-4 years or so. Used meth to get over heroin because heroin is 1000% worse for me.
So one day when I was super high years ago I got a strong urge to read the Bible. I began reading it high on meth. Over time I began to feel a high outside of the meth. Something better and more pure. Over time God showed me how to get addicted to him. So now Jesus is my drug and prayer and reading the bible and serving others is how I take it. God is so good
SSRIs and beer, though I still drink sometimes but I have to be careful about carbs. I got up over 300lbs LOL. I’m doing keto now for almost a year and getting rid of carbs is life changing. I think I’m allergic to the hops in beer. I still drink a lot of coffee but not ready for decaf. I stopped drinking soda at least 8 years ago and switched to plain water. Don’t miss it ever. LOL meth.. nope never tried it. I’ve only ever used weed (nope, heart palps) and shrooms. I’m very selective about what I watch on tv. Usually golf and hockey and movies or series but that’s it.
Oh and I forgot- tobacco. Used to dip constantly.
It was nasty. And thanks!
Not that I was that much addicted (only had problem to balance the need to sleep vs the craving for « a last glass », but since last year, I vowed to abstain from alcohol during both Advent and Lent.
Been 3 weeks minus a day in Lent and I don’t feel I am missing something. Reading this at night is as tiring without a glass than with one and I fell twice during the weekend because of inattention. Waiting for the third one…to stand up again.🙏🏻
Also, where I am, people boast about dry January… like abstaining to imbibe after the New Year Eve’s binge. I did not binge during these days. And i consider it idiotic to fast in the middle of the Winter vs in early Spring. Lent was chosen to be now because it’s better for the body. Don’t starve a freezing body, that’s unhealthier than the habits it’s supposed to heal.
Summer helps you get a layer of fat for the cold times, a spring fast helps you skim that fat and get fit for the summer harvest.
