Is Alexa, Bixby, Roomba, Samsung TV's, Spotify, Google items, Fitbit, Apple products and smartphones/ all of our convenient "smart" devices on that list?
This is probably another reason Amazon was secretly building radio transceivers into Alex devices for that radio mesh LAN network. All these manufacturers could connect anonymously, bypassing the need to identify and connect to closed networks.
For the moment, all devices need access to your wi-fi. Don't enable it. But... 5G (and later 6G) capability may be bundled into device and needs no permission for updates, spying, and limitations on how you use it. This will all be pushed under efficiency, safety, and "frictionless" utility. These are the chains being forged. Once widely adopted, just like CBDC it will give another total control over how you live your life. What you watch, how hot or cold you keep your home, what you eat, read, websites visited, and where you spend your money. There will always be workarounds but the more smart technology is brought into your home the harder it will be to escape its control.
Going to have to leave our phones (any smart devices) in the house and go outside to have a conversation these days. When my husband starts to talk about stuff over the phone that I think shouldn't be talked about over the phone, I tell him we'll talk about it later when he's home.
Hard for it to spy if it doesn’t have a connection to the world. If you really want the IoT a separate router with no WAN uplink suffices without anything talking to the outside.
Better hope your neighbor doesn't have an Alexa device or Ring camera cuz this hidden mesh network will be communicating with your new smart device without your knowledge or consent.
Only real solutions are to yank the radio transceiver out and hope the fridge still works or buy a fridge now without smart capability.
