You see, this is what pisses me off about veganism. If you're vegan, you're vegan. It's because you don't want to consume anything associated with animal produce, because you are against that on principle. So why then would you embrace this shit being produced that pretends to look and taste like the real thing. That just tells me that your 'principle' is fucking bullshit.
they used vegans to hide behide while they steal our beef, milk and eggs
Your logic is flawed. Take videogames for instance, things like Grand Theft Auto. If you're morally against shooting people in real life and stealing their cars, why would you embrace a game that pretends to shoot people and steal cars?
The answer is because, as a vegan, we don't want to cause unnecessary pain towards animals. Sure the food tastes good, but that doesn't mean i want to participate in the murder of an animal just to eat the food.
Just like in video games. Sure it's fun to steal cars and murder a bunch of people, but that doesn't mean i want to participate in the murder of real people just to get that experience, when we can simulate it all the same without the moral dilemma attached.
It's anything in videogames really. There's a game called Cookie Clicker. Quite addicting. It's a game where you manage a cookie factory. Well, you pretend to manage a cookie factory, without actually going through the hassle of setting up a business to own a cookie factory.
Or how about board games? You pretend to own a bunch of land, build houses and hotels, and bankrupt people in the game of monopoly. Yet 99.99% of people who have played monopoly never end up doing any of that. Or the game of Life, where you can pretend to go to college and get a degree, and start an entire life sequence, without getting bogged down with 6 figures of college debt.
Truth is, people pretend to do things all the time, without actually having any desires to do the real thing.
Why not pretend to eat a burger, without a dead cow that was horribly treated in life being killed just to sit on your plate?
Pretending, isn't real life. You can pretend all kinds of scenarios, without going through the real life means of making it happen.
So is your proposed solution to remove all forms of pretending? Get rid of movies, games, plays, etc, and focus on reality only?
I see nothing wrong with enjoying myself a good Beyond Burger. I'm not thinking to myself while eating it that I'm glad i pretended to kill a cow to eat it. I'm simply enjoying the taste. And with the knowledge that a cow wasn't killed to make that happen.
You: "...this is what pisses me off about veganism..."
Also you: "I absolutely don't have any problems with veganism..."
It sounded like you had a problem with veganism in your initial post, which sparked this chat in the first place.
Anyway, i wish you a good day. Take care of yourself.
"good" in an oxymoron there.
I eat ears of corn and orange carrots often enough.
Jesus talks about how our thoughts matter/best to keep them on the good side; so why would we even be drawn to such mental activity? seems demonic to me...
curious as I've seen many empty teens over the years/all had some interest in violent images...
IMO --- Your logic is flawed.
Wow, i never thought of that! You spoke your rebuttal so well, and with such enthusiasm and confidence, that i have now learned the errors of my ways. Thank you kind sir or maddam. Have a sincerely wonderful day!
I don't think so. IMO you need help if you think this way.
It's a video game, not real life. I don't personally play it, but I'm not gonna act like I'm better than those who do play it. It's entertainment.
As a vegan I would like your thoughts on this, if you would. If we didn't eat meat the cattle, chickens and pigs that we eat will never feel life without being farmed? Yes they don't live a full life, but neither do many animals killed/consumed in the wild. Without farming many of these animals would barely exist.
This is my take on it. Would like to know your opinion.
As for the current impossible meat fad, I don't think it is healthy, they are made from seed oils, studies have shown seed oil fat to be worse on people than animal fat. For vegans that don't eat meat for cleaner health, these processed meats are not better. I can more understand eating vegetables, beans, peanuts to get your nutrients. Just my thoughts. You seem open to discussing so asking your opinion.
I'm not sure what you're getting at for the first point. I've known people that had a pig or chickens as pets. They don't raise them to eat them, they're just part of the family.
As for the second point, honestly most of the vegan burgers taste awful. The impossible burgers, for instance, just don't do it for me. I'm not doing this for health. It's for moral reasons. We've created the technology to eat without ending another's life, why not embrace that technology? The current way animals are farmed is very inhumane. If a company 'farmed' human meat like that, no one would buy their meat, knowing just how wrong it is. They would go out of business fast, and rightfully so. But somehow it's okay to farm cows and chickens and pigs like that? I really don't understand that logic.
People consume much worse things than seed oils. I'm not worried about my health here.
Thanks for your thoughts. My initial point was there would be about 1% of the cows there are now if people didn't eat them. So most cows would never have a chance to live. I don't agree that farming of livestock is inhumane. Sure there are some instances of it with veil, and chickens mashed into small enclosures. But Cattle live 10-12 years (edit i guess the 10 years is for the mothers, other cattle live 2 years which is much shorter), they are bred in multi step operations, cow/calf to feeder to stocker. They mainly get to roam and eat. If we didn't farm cows they wouldn't even get those 10-12 years they would not exist to begin with, at least not on the scale they exist today.
It becomes a philosophical question, what is worse to never have lived or to live a shortened lifespan?
I am not trying to convert you just trying to give you my point of view. For the inhumane farming going on, I don't think they will simply ban all the practices. What I do think we can push for is labeling meat by the process it was harvested. Free range vs chickens living in coops with thousands of others for example. This won't get things to where you want them, but it would be a step in that direction.
You say there would be about 1% if the cows there are now. Do you have source for that, or are you just making that up? In either case, do you think it would be okay to farm humans the way we farm cows? More humans would get a chance to live, so by your logic, why shouldn't we? Is it really a life, if you're just bred and raised to be slaughtered?
Do we agree that farming humans for their meat is wrong and inhumane? If so, then I'm confused why you think it's okay to farm cows for their meat. It should be considered just as inhumane.
There are kids living in third world countries that have no house and no family, and are barely surviving. Would you consider it heroic then, to save that kid, fatten him up for a few years with some food, just to slaughter him and eat him? Sure you gave him a "better" life than he had before, but does that make it okay?
There is no "humane" way to farm cows for their meat, just like there is no "humane" way to farm humans for their meat. "Freerange" is just a buzzword to make you feel good about needless barbaric slaughter of a creature that didn't need to die.
the 1% is a shot in the dark, it would be massively lower is the point. I don't think this can be refuted. Humans are at a higher consciousness and created in the image of God, so I don't see farming livestock as an equivalent to farming humans.
If you put animals on equal footing as humans, we have no basis for a discussion. If you feel the death of a pet in your household is the same as the death of your mother, father or child, there is nothing more to be said.
I pray you find God before you pass.
edit: I didn't down vote you even though I disagree with your logic. Someone else did.
The downvote was inspoken, they admitted to it down below.
I can't confirm nor deny that we are a "higher consciousness" than a cow. For all we know, they're a higher consciousness than us, created the pyramids, realized they were too smart and decided to humble themselves.
I'm joking, but yes, pets that we accept into our house are treated like the rest of the family. When we go to family outings with the rest of the family, they come too. There's no need for specism here. They deserve a good life like the rest of us
"Do you have the source for that" get's the downvote. It's of course a rough number but if they are not farmed explain to me how they would no go the way of the buffalo.
You apparently just stopped reading at that point then. I'll downvote you for lack of reading skills.
You're not "saving cows" by farming and eating them. I'm not sure why you think you are. Your whole argument is flawed on that basis alone
Okay. Now Congress do this and apply 30 years in prison for violations and adulterating food.
Salute
We should congratulate them! We need that here!
I wonder what the reaction of Brussels will be. They are not amused.
They’ll ban synthetic meat but they certainly won’t ban insects and other arthropods considering they’re supposedly “natural” for us to eat.
Ants raise aphids the way the we raise cows. Where are all the "save the aphids" protests???
LOL. Great comment. But based on the description of the person, doesn't sound like the circuits are wired correctly for the lightbulb to even turn on.
They are so right. It's easy to sabotage such highly processed foods. They could be as "safe and effective" as covid shots. There are certain contaminants that quality control labs will scan for, otherwise you need to know exactly what to ask for. It's safest to eat a recognizable slice of beef or vegetable.
There is no reason in theory that a recognizable slice of beef or vegetable cannot be produced by a non-natural process. To some degree that already happens with plants. We grow them in environmentally controlled greenhouses using hydroponics and all kinds of non-natural inputs. Sometimes genetically modified. Meat is just organized chemistry carried out by a living organism. If those processes were replicated a lab might be able to turn out a T-bone you couldn't distinguish from a natural grown one.
Labs can already 3d print human organs for transplantation. Why won't they be able to do that for a burger?
Fagetaboutit
They have a great new president too.
That is awesome! Let's see other nations follow suit.
Nice 😎
I would prefer synthetic meat, assuming it can be perfected to taste good and be safe.
