Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Today would have been my brother's birthday. He is the one who died last year in February and was found sitting under a tree behind his bank. He had a massive heart attack. I miss him greatly. RIP Bernie.
So sad to hear Mary. Birthdays and holidays are tough to get through. Praying that God will soften the sadness with happy memories that you two shared. ❤️
Thank you so much.
You’re most welcome.
Mary - Very sorry to hear about your loss. My deepest condolences.
Thank you.
Thank you friend.
I am so sorry for your loss Mary...I am sure that was a great shock...I know the memories of him give you great comfort...
actually today is my husband's birthday...I always love twinkie birthdays...there is just something special about two people born on the same day....
God bless you and yours...
Thank you my friend. Happy B'day to the hubby from me. God bless.
Thoughts are with you on this day Mary ,must be a hard day for you.
Thank you. He was only 2 years older than me. I have 2 older sisters above him. I am the 4th. There are 4 more younger however my brother that was 2 years younger died in a car wreck when he was 22. So out of 8 kids (last of Baby Boomers) there are 6. It makes you think about how precious life really is. Again, thank you and have a much blessed weekend.
Mary, it must be terribly hard to feel the loss of his presence, especially on the anniversary of his passing.
Perhaps you can memorialize him in some way - plant a tree or special bush, burn a candle, reach out to someone who alao might need help?
Just anything to mark his memory. I pray for your healing, and reach out with a virtual hug {😍} 🙏.
Thank you friend. My family and I simply sat and talked about him. And then I remembered how he loved a cook-out so we grilled some hot dogs and hamburgers for us and the grandkids. God bless.
Planting onions today, the ground is absolutely frost free from a warm spell we had for an entire week, soil nice and deep. Plants arrived in the mail, Patterson and Cabernet, long keepers, long season. It's safe to plant 2-3 weeks before our last frost. Onions are essential to most of the things I cook and eat, and since I cannot eat tomatos anymore, due to MCAS, I have so much more room! I imagine it will take me most of the day because I am old and slow. That's fine, I am happiest down on my knees in the soil, praising creation.
Old and slow perhaps, but you are moving and that keeps you younger! Happy gardening fren!
We are down at our lake house in the Deep South doing maintenance before the summer rental season. There is a bent tree (really bent) on the property so I found a book about Native American bent trees and contacted the author online to inquire about ours.
Turns out we do indeed have a “Descendant” marker tree for a 3-4th generation person probably Creek nation.
I find this so fascinating.
That's really interesting! My husband and I are looking for a retirement place in the South. There really is a lot to be said for older land.
This shit just made me think I was late for work!
Any GAW pedes headed over the the Great American Restoration Tour?
On the ground or via the web?
Asking for a fren...
Bonjour bonjour!🤗
How’s everybody today? I pray everyone’s weekend goes smooth and pleasant.🙏🏻
(Excepting Alice)
Are you referring to the place in Santa Cruise?...
I'll have some glossy 3x5" photographs, And a side of implements of de-struc-shun....
Circles and Arrows please!
…except a context and the end of the sentence or maybe just lice?🤓
I would go as usual:
