I have been in analysis paralysis when it comes to where put my childrens money. I dont have enough in savings anymore, as it has been a rough couple of years for my wife and I, however my young children have quite a bit. So i was wanting to ask you all, where should i buy physical gold, and in what form should i buy it? The amount of money can only buy a few ounces so its not like a huge amount, but not quite sure where i should buy it and in what form. Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

APMEX. I never had any problem with them
i can second APMEX. Been ordering gold and silver from them for 3 years no issues. timely delivery
Thank you
Gold is good, but consider silver many of us belive it has more upside potential.
I am sure you have alot of silver, are 1oz silver bars a good thing to buy? I guess I don't understand why some people say to buy in coins etc.
Bars are good, the reason to buy 1964 and earlier us coins, they are good for trading if the shit hits the fan. Recently they are getting much harder to find. They are only 90% silver. Probably the best deal on a current national coin is the silver krugerand.
It doesn't make a lot of differnce, buy what you like that has a low premium. You and your kids will enjoy owning it much more
Thanks for the explanation and that makes sense!
One other thing gold is much more portable. You can put a few thousand dollers worth in your front pocket, if you have to bug out...... a lot of people buy 90% silver and about 10% gold to have the best of both worlds.
That's what I am thinking about doing, I really do appreciate all the tips!
No problem, we all have different circumstances and will need different preps and investments. I wish I had bought some gold when I was buying. Hopefully I will have time to pick some up.
Why do you think that 1 oz. silver bars are a good thing, but not 1oz. silver coins?
I didn't mean it like that, I meant is it okay to buy the bars because I like them and wanted to buy some. And I was wondering that because I hear many people say to buy rounds/coins instead. I am still pretty ignorant, just trying to learn.
Will do, thank you!!
I love that you went through some rough times and did not take anything from your children's fund.
That's all I came to say.
I appreciate that.
One ounce government issue is my preference for gold. If you get fractional ounces, the premium is much more.
US Eagles and Buffaloes, Canadian Maple Leafs and South African Krugerands are my favorites.
If you need coins with gold content but less than an ounce, look at the British Sovereigns - those are nice.
Thank you!
For where to buy, build a relationship with the best local coin shop you can find. Online will be less expensive, but there will be a paper trail identifying you as a precious metals buyer.
Too bad all my online PM’s were lost in that tragic boating accident.
Based on what you’ve seen the feds do over the past few years, do you honestly believe that when you tell them, “I lost it in a boating accident” that they will just accept that and move on?
Better to never be on their radar in the first place.
I like U.S. Mint issued gold and silver eagles. Its funny to say, but I trust them more than anyone else for content and weight.
I usually start by going here:
https://findbullionprices.com/
Search what I am looking for, and if you click into the search results, it will show you a list of the more common dealers prices and what their premium is. Then you can decide who to buy from. I have bought numerous things from Apmex and JM and a few others as well. Never had any issues with anyone listed there though. I prefer Apmex if their premium isn't crazy out of whack. But that should help you get started hopefully.
at least you aren't buying paper certiificates for 99.9999 % pure gold
I read that Australia was in trouble for selling China dilluted gold.
good luck
I have purchased from APMEX and I have purchased Utah Goldbacks. I hear JM Bullion is good too.
I am on jm now, and I think I am going to go with them. Should I buy coins or little bars? Or does it matter since it will be held for a long time?
See my second comment - if you buy online, the government will be able to track you down when they decide to make gold ownership illegal again.
Make sure you’re okay with that before you make your purchases online.
Boating accident? Gifted, can't recall? Buried it somewhere in the back where I happen to need tiling, aeration or weed removal? Kek
Sure, absolutely. However, when the feds decide to start the confiscation, they’re going to start with the list of online orders, and you’ll be on the skyline.
Consider what we’ve seen out of the alphabet boys over the past few years. Do you really think when they come for your gold, they will accept “I lost it in a boating accident”?
Better to never be on the list at all, IMO.
Obviously that was a joke, amigo. And spilled milk is already spilled. We probably all have guns too, another list. And have been buying long-dated food on credit cards, another list. And pulling out cash gradually, another list. And avoided the injections, another list. And argued with our doctors before firing them, another list. The Venn diagram might even include having visited Washington DC or Charlottesville or anyplace a pro life march occurred.
Heck, do you think posting here is really anonymous if every chip has a back door, every data provider captures or is intercepted?
Anywho, when feds want to confiscate, they'll either go all out war and pick some hard targets to create another Bundy or Waco situation pretext to impose martial law, or go for low-hanging fruit, isolated men with lots of stuff.
Good point thank you
I bought from JM, I bought a little of both
I buy through JM Bullion. They ship fast, never had a problem with them. I buy US Mint (American Gold and Silver Eagles).
You should consider buying a bit of both gold and silver. Just make sure to buy the physical metal, and not a piece of paper saying you own it (when things crash that paper will become worthless).
Gold is under 2000.00 currently. I added to my little stash at 2011.10 an oz. Check out JM Bullion. Trustworthy and stays on top of any of your orders. There are other reputable dealers as I’m sure you’ll find out. A lot of folks here deal with local coin shops. I’m not knowledgeable enough to feel comfortable doing that…yet, but I’m getting to know the local guy. My advice is to get it while you can.
Thank you, I live in the middle of no where so I don't have a local dealer, but I will try and find the closest one, thanks again!
I had a problem with JM Bullion a few years ago, so I buy from Apmex now... 1 oz gold bars seems to be the sweet spot as far for gold. Smaller sized gold has a lot more premium fees, and larger would be harder to liquidate. Gold coins have a higher premium over bars.
Junk silver (90% silver coins) are the most portable, but premiums are quite high right now... Silver premiums seem higher than gold per investment dollar to me...
I desire portability to carry around so I plan on buying gold bars then coins followed by some silver junk coins. Calculate the amount per gram for comparison and view precious metals as wealth preservation rather than get rich quick...
Fantastic, and that is my goal. I just don't want this money I was able to save for my kids to go to waste
