That's not how it works. Biden pushes a executive order. Congress passes a bill to block said order. Biden veto's the bill to block said order.
The political pundits are always saying executive orders aren't a big deal because congress of the next president can overturn them, but you still need a veto proof majority in congress to overturn them.
Not technically true. Congress doesn't overturn an executive order - they create a law to codify the behavior they want. In this case they were making a law that a President can't do what POTATUS is trying to do. Biden will veto that bill.
However the next POTUS can just strike that EO and it is gone.
Presidents can't make laws but they can write EOs that are for the Executive branch. In this case he is way overstepping any presidential authority because only the House can appropriate funds. This is all a show for low-info voters to believe the Dims are trying to pay their loans.
Right, but the fact that the bill is going to be vetoed means that Biden will actually get his way, not because he isn't overstepping his presidential authority, but rather because nobody is stopping him (unless the Supreme Court rules against him).
I may have gotten some of the technical issues wrong, but the outcome is still student loan forgiveness unless the Supreme Court rules otherwise.
Yes - SCOTUS will smack him down 9-0. Exec branch can try to forgive the debt but they can't allocate money so they would have to take it from their own budget and there is no way an agency will give their budget away. It is all a show.
Idk why y'all are celebrating this. The whole point of massive student debt was to financially enslave an entire generation to the feds, making it much harder for them to protest or organise against the NWO.
College education used to cost a small fraction of what it does now. Colleges get bookoo bucks from the feds which increases federal control over universities, and students are indebted for decades if not for life.
Conservatives don't complain when the Uniparty gives a blank check to defense contractors like Raytheon, Lockheed Martin etc, but go crazy over something that could actually help in the fight against the deep state.
Having said all that, I don't think the Biden administration ever expected this to go through, but just did it for optics / 2022 midterms.
Unshackling the so-called parasites would have been the least evil thing America’s government has funded in generations.
Tuition became predatory 35 years ago on purpose and - in most cases- nothing even close to resembling an education was bought with those slavery-dollars.
I still think the better route is to drain every single endowment from these schools and turbo the loans from there.
Very true. I graduated 34 years ago. Many of my peers worked and put themselves through school - maybe some debt, but nothing like it is today.
A few years ago, I asked my mom how much did my education cost. University of CA was a total of $30K for four years, which included living expenses, books, etc. Now it is $30K per year and that is if you live at home - $40K with on campus housing. The quality of education in no way is any better. But I remember Clinton especially pushing the "everyone needs to go to college' because otherwise they will because failure in life. I disagreed with that then but tried to question myself to make sureI wasn't pulling a " well I got mine, sucks to be you" on myself. Nope. But I never dreamed it would get like this.
The internet brings mass information to the masses, so now you need less experience or education on paper anyway.
The only value college brings other than the papers is offering hands on experience, which is invaluable... but replaceable, especially if you find someone in your field that will see your potential and offer you training.
It also makes it easier than ever for people to put together a plan using publicly available information to push you forward.
College is 100% over valued in the era of the internet.
It is going through, the bill isn't enough of a majority for Biden not to hit it with a veto, which means he veto's this bill and his student loan plan goes forward unless the Supreme Court steps in and judges otherwise.
I took on my debt to become an RN fully expecting to pay it, and I can certainly still afford to pay it over time. Having this debt forgiven would help allow me, a young libertarian, buy a house, start a family, pursue more achievements etc... I don't think it would've been complete evil to let this one pass but I also don't think Biden truly intended to do it.
What about us poor folk who have been working since we were 15 and didn’t have parents to pay for our education and were born white so we couldn’t receive free money, made just enough money to not be eligible for any help and have had our paychecks pillaged by taxes, Medicare and social security but have not and will not see any of those benefits we paid into, where do we fall into this category of fair?
Quickest way to make a person anti government- get a job, become self employed and pay attention to what they do with the money they steal from you.
Just having fun poking you with a stick. If you can’t tell I’m a disgruntled hard working American mutt giddy with anticipation for this whole diseased temple to burn to the ground universities included.
And I fully understand where your coming from and agree with the sentiment.
I agree, it was military for me, they have an excellent program to help with education. I too was poor. After the service, I worked very hard and put in lots of overtime, that helped me save for retirement.
Well I very much appreciate your service and sacrifice. When it comes down to it we’re all getting scammed one way or the other and no matter the scam it always seems to lead to the same scammers who are doing a very good job at dividing us and making us argue amongst each other with petty issues, which are symptoms and not the cause.
Thank you. Exactly, I believe Obama started us arguing, he always did what he wanted, whether it was within his executive power or not. He was and is worthless, I always thought he would be thrown out with his fake birth certificate.
Uh, what does he think he's going to veto? A blank piece of paper? The bill was blocked.
Okay I thought I was retarded there for a second lol.

Uh, bullshit. We are the first ones to call out fraud, waste, and abuse.

Yeah, I think it is still pending for the SC.
What are people ever going to learn that votes don’t count anymore. It’s all an illusion.

Good. I already paid off my debt in less than 3 years after graduation, I ain't paying for anybody else.
I’m glad it was blocked, it’s not fair to those of us that paid for our children’s education.
