Interesting reading this story though, thought you might get a chuckle
"Surgical masks, cloth masks, and ill-fitting N95 masks are not effective protective equipment,” he said. Windows and vents should also be closed to prevent outside air from entering homes, Savary said."
I know, right? Just watched a live feed of a webcam overlooking NYC (which essentially looks like it's located in a dust storm on MARS) and all of the smooth-brain commenters are like, "Oh noes, I gots to dig out my N95 mask!!"
My waking-up-more-each-day wife just asked me..."Is this smoky atmosphere with shitty AQI numbers an intentional thing, and are they trying to lock us down again in other ways??"
I am SO damn proud of her, and the way she's learned to question it ALL. To her very valid point...I've never seen skyrocketing AQI numbers my entire life as I've witness the past two days. AQI is hovering in the low 200s here in the Peoples Republic of Northern Virginia, and slated to get worse tonight and tomorrow. Can barely see houses and trees a half block away because of smoke/haze lowering from the sky.
In the Detroit area here, they keep running stories that we currently have the second worst air quality in the entire world. Now wonder I've been coughing occasionally for no apparent reason for a week or so now.
Look to Canada, the past couple months they have been under fire. So much so that a thick stream of smoke has been moving down through certain areas. Looking at the air quality map right now, looks like something is going on North of Ottawa, last moth it was western Canada that was fully lit up and causing airquality problems for us down south. Second worst, I doubt it, pull up any air quality world map on any given day, there is a Band of unhealthy to dangerous pockets that crosses northern Africa all the way over to easter China. As well, here in the states there is a spot out in the middle of no where that I keep seeing pop up with unhealthy to dangerous(at times) didnt see anything there but a small town though.
SAmerica keeps lighting up because of Volcanic activity. heh. Makes for cool looking sunsets/rises though. :P
The sky is auburn brown, sun is orange and barely throwing red-orange light.
I have one of those room air purifiers in a closed house and it's reading 5 times the particulates as usual.
As a bonus. I showed the satellite loop to quite a few receptive normies, and they were immediately shocked at how "unnatural it is for multiple fires to start at the same time". They also used words like "that looks organized" and "it may be terrorism".
Agree I'm innawoods and today it's beyond-the-pale Apocalyptic-tier smoke, Gotta headache to beat the band. I can't figure out if it;s better or worse in the woods. In a way, it seems worse because the smoke lingers amid the trees. Then again, open space parking lot at work didn't seem any better.
My dogs are weirded out, too.
Stopped at Rite-Aid and bought some N-95's after being let out of work early. Kinda ironic that normies were walking around all maskless and normie-like and I'm the one buying masks. During COVID it was the reverse. I guess normies need to be TOLD what to do. Once an official announcement is made, I suspect masks will fly off the shelves like toilet paper in March of 2020.
Still, I just keep thinking if it's this bad in NEPA how awful it must be for the poor souls in Canada. We're fortunate there's a bit of a breeze and it's not hot and humid. Yet. For the first time in a very long time I want to cry, feel compelled to pray.
Northern IN here. No smoke smell but haze the past three days and forecast thru end of week with poor air quality. Some local fires as well as we are very parched (only sprinkles in about a month)
We had that too way further west in the Midwest. Everyone was wondering why the sky had been so hazy lately. We also haven't had any rain for several weeks. It's a bit concerning.
Oh so your near me. Sky is indeed fucked.

But but but. ... They work on Covid!

Smoke particulates are waaaaaayyyyy wwaaaayyyy larger than flu germs.

Ban trees in Canada.
We're getting it in central PA, too.
My allergies are off the charts.
I am on East coast in Mass area.....Pretty shitty here too. Smells bad, and smoky air quality.

It has made it as far as Nashville. We have a light smoke smell in the air and people are having issues breathing.
Smoke... and mirrors? 🤔

PA: the smell of smoke; pigeons in the courtyard on the bricks staying low.
It's hazy skies in the southern beach area of Delaware!
My friend in Buffalo said it was pretty smokey there.
