The reason Vanguard and Blackrock own such a significant share of "any" company is because they have created mutual funds that include those stocks.
What you really should be worried about is that if you own a mutual fund you actually don't own the shares held within that fund. You own the fund that represents those stocks.
If for example your mutual fund company goes belly up, so go the shares that you only "think" you own. You can't say well I still have my shares. Nope- you have an empty fund. No recourse.
