Well actually that would be a fascinating followup question: was the suppression alg in company version control? Is Twitter running any code that is written externally? How secure is their DevOps setup?
I could also imagine a downstream team--say a team involved in caching or translating content, or maybe an ads team--might add some secret sauce at a later stage of the process that is less prone to examination, but could perhaps achieve a suppression effect.

I'm hoping part of the clean-up is saving all the PMs and Tweets used for human trafficking and pedophilia for later use in courts and tribunals.
They should add blame logs to show who added the code.
