Need help here….in Wisconsin, Midwest, and into Tennessee the air quality is in a deep red alert. And has been for the last week.
Supposedly coming from the Canada fires. My co-workers and I are questioning if this is the case. Why is it isolated to the Midwest? Where and what is the real source of this toxic spew?
Also looked at supposed fires. They show they are all over our state. Not true.
Anyone smarter than I when it comes to jet stream patterns and wind patterns. Would like your wisdom.
Never in my 20 years of living here have I seen anything like this. It is making many so sick. It smells like a chemical.
It's made its way to central PA here. Not as bad as the last time but could get there, it does smell like plastic.
Same!. Here in Jtwn PA. haze all around. Brief smells of campfire. But thats it. Refer to that one vid of multiple smoke planes rising all at once
Can confirm (Northern Illinois) that it smells like a house fire- some wood, but mixed with plastics- like an electrical transformer or something. If it is a forest fire, something else is in there, burning.
Maybe a traincar of vinyl chloride or something.
I work in Rockford, but live in southern Wisconsin. This haze is so weird. I've never seen anything like it in my life. I was at Woodman's in Janesville earlier this afternoon and they were requiring "mandatory" drive up for loading your groceries due to the "air quality". I'm like what?! How does all of us driving our cars right up to the store doors so you can load our groceries make the air quality situation better? Apparently they weren't wanting staff to have to go out and fetch the carts. We pushed our groceries out to the truck and loaded them in then I delivered the cart back to the store. "Mandatory". I don't freaking think so.
.....at least it is keeping the malaria mosquitoes out
It doesnt smell like any wildfire smoke I've smelled before. More like plastic and chemicals. Very odd smell. The smoke was thick enough that it looked like the entire neighborhood was having a bbq. I was surprised that the smoke is still visible this far away.
Fellow Wisconsin here. This is bad really bad the haze is everywhere and I can see it inside the shop . I kept checking my glasses. No one seems alarmed.
I know. No one cares. I am in NE WI. It’s crazy. Never seen this and no one cares!
Theres an animated map in THIS ARTICLE that allegedly shows how the wind is blowing the Canadian smoke.
Remember that 30 tons of ammonium nitrate that was stolen??? I asked this question on twatter when the skies were an orange red from the "fires"... What color does ammonium nitrate have when it burns??? One person said it doesn't burn yet several others said it does and it's that orange red color... The person that said it doesn't burn said they worked with the chemical for many years yet the others that said the opposite had done research into it like I had... Given enough heat, anything will burn especially if there is flames as well...
It’s not from the fires. I can’t get over how stupid people are. Like — wake the fuck up.
I don't know what's going on, and I pray for your safety, but the now claim that it's over Europe. This is all BS. What kind of fuckery is going on here?

NW Kentucky here. It's horrible.
in the upper Midwest too and it’s crappy outside, real hot & a bad smell; but I don’t see a lot of smoke/was hazy yesterday. And I think the Midwest has more common sense, so maybe that’s why they target us/we know (they) are full of sh*t.
It is here in WV too.
SW Ohio here. Heavy haze yesterday. Smelled like burnt wood.
