4 U.S. Code § 8 - Respect for flag U.S. Code
No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.
(a)The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
(b)The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
(c)The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.
(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker’s desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.
(e)The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.
(f)The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.
(g)The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.
(h)The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.
(i)The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.
(j)No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.
(k)The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
A. Is looking appropriate
Unfortunately many, MANY people who are patriots do this, and don't know about this bit of flag etiquette.
Good post.
I think that rule is applied to actual flags, not flag pins, or flag patterns; it is an actual flag that should not be worn.
That is exactly what it means. You shouldn't use and actual US Flag. To many people don't understand this simple rule. You want to wear a shirt with US flag pattern, have at it, because it isn't actually a flag.
Maybe, it is hard to differentiate them though.
Sometimes it is. I'll wear a t-shirt with a flag emblem on it, but not a t-shirt that looks like it was made out of an actual flag or pieces of flags. There is a difference and sometimes it's a judgment call.
My neighbor had a big flag wrapped around her over a bikini and I wanted to share my Handbook for Patriots with her. She's a teacher type that seems to be waking up. She just put up a flagpole for Old Glory for her birthday.
I am wearing a scarf but it is not the flag itself just stripes and stars
At first glace, I thought your post title read:
lol that's the French version
wee-wee, mon sewer - I learned to speak in the South of France.
That’s just because we’re waiting. I totally understand why you saw that. We want justice! Until Christ, feet land on the mount of olives, I don’t see that happening! That’s when the true great awakening will occur. And yes, no one can stop what is coming.
Quite often I see US flags with an insignia or logo on the stripes portion.
In my younger years, I even had one with a tribal logo on it, after learning more about the US flag code I destroyed that flag and now only fly Old Glory as she was meant to be flown.
You are right - the flag should not have anything else superimposed or printed on it, even something cool like an eagle.
I'm sorry, but I fly my flag upside down on days of utter ClownWorld like days Trump has been arrested.
Sorry no I am going to keep wearing flags on clothes
Wearing of Flags is acceptable. cutting a flag or using a full flag is not.
Thank you for the clarification
What about leaving a flag up at night?
American Flag Display FAQ | The American Legion
https://www.legion.org › flag › faq
The Flag Code states it is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flag staffs in the open.
However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
Ours is illuminated by a motion-sensing light :)
Remember when the hag Moochel Chewbacca said "All of this for a damn flag?"
So with all of this in mind, how is burning the flag as a protest not a reason for arrest and fine, but considered free speech?
Because "free speech" does not mean "only things we like." Hate speech IS free speech, whether we like it or not.
Flag burning is not illegal - provided it's your own personal flag - because that is the price we pay to live in a truly free country.
The Supreme Court did rule that burning the U.S. flag is protected political speech. I mean, I don't like it but I understand why they had to rule that way.

I'm just a Canadian, so what do I know, but it seems to me like almost the entire flag code is unconstitutional due to freedom of speech. Is the flag code an actual law currently in effect? It sounds like guidelines rather than law.
Yes, I get that, but doesn’t that seem like a dichotomy? You can’t mistreat the flag, here is the flag etiquette, but it is okay to stomp on it, spit on it, put it on the pavement and set it on fire. But you set the BLM flag on fire and you are convicted for racism, hate speech, a hateful act.
Exactly.
Burning a flag is showing the most disrespect possible to the flag and is illegal under US code.
Awesome Post! Appreciate your timing fren!
When burning the flag after its worn, lower it into the fire, don't set it on fire.
Ah. U.S Flag Code.
A legal document that is read less then the “terms and conditions” documents.
And that’s saying something. Because next to no one reads the “Terms and Conditions” without a reason.
I’d suggest it should be updated to account for cultural shifts. But next to no one reads it anyway. So it seems redundant.
You mean the sodomite flag right?/s
