We currently have a stray in our home. Poor thing is so scared of all the booms going on around our home. I wish we could go back to where only authorized shows with permits were allowed to set off fireworks here in AZ. We are a tinder box.
Just because fireworks are managed by a city doesn't mean the local dogs don't suffer. I've been to local fireworks and seen dogs running around scared and out of control. Before leaving home during this time a responsible pet owner should at the minimum make sure the dog is inside or in an outside pen. The dog will still be upset but not running around getting hurt or lost.

Mine are all hiding in the bedroom with the wife right now as the neighborhood burns half a paycheck, and they'll be online complaining about how they can't pay the water and/or electric bills in a day or two.

Those dogs and cats better be armed, they know better than us how the Chinese were taking them out with the food supply. If you are paying attention to agriculture reports, they have now gone beyond poisoning the human food supply to taking it completely away. You are not supposed to realize this until it is too late to do anything about it; hence, the distractive MSM reports. I take my 3 dogs shooting on occasion. The are generally meh about fireworks but with an low bark when a a big boom hits. Just the way I like it. Love dogs.
My old sheppy is on meds now, all the time, for pain and seizures, she is not bothered anymore, shutting the windows and running a/c on high helps. Some breeds are bothered more than others. My Springer/Poodle cross, comes from a long line on the Springer side of field Spaniel gun dogs.It is amazing how genetics can change the entire beast.Poodles were also originally bird dogs, but their loving and playful attitude and loyalty turned them into companions. English Shepherds are bred to run stock and they are the bravest dogs, except with loud thunder and gunshots and fireworks, they are bred to protect hearth home and farm, and they just get overwhelmed, but they can face down a steer and never back down. I had one once that the only thing that would work is to get in the car and drive, I had spent many a thunderstorm with her doing exactly that. The neighbor set off some on Friday night, and I did not appreciate it, loud cannons and rockets right over my roof. The town I live in does it out on a Lake, but last night there were torrential storms and big hail, they just kept coming in, sheppie was stoned on Gabbapentin and she was okay.
My dogs don't care...to Steve and Slinky, it's just another opportunity to shred a roll of paper towels just for shits n giggles.
My late, great dog never minded the fireworks. Slept soundly through the biggest storm we ever had here too. Very chill guy. I feel for the pets that hate it though.
